‘What the President Said Was Stupid!’: CNN Panel Goes Off After Trump Tweets About Andrew Jackson
An AC360 panel on CNN tonight got very heated after President Trump doubled down on his comments about the Civil War and Andrew Jackson.
You’ve probably heard by now that the president said Jackson––who died before the Civil War began––could have prevented it from happening. He also said, “People don’t realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why? People don’t ask that question, but why was there a Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?”
Tonight he tweeted this out:
President Andrew Jackson, who died 16 years before the Civil War started, saw it coming and was angry. Would never have let it happen!

On CNN afterwards, Congressman Jack Kingston defended Trump and said he certainly has a point about what Jackson could have done. Tara Setmayer jumped in and said that Trump supporters need to stop defending this “asinine thing” he said.
Kingston shot back that Trump critics are engaging in “feigned indignation” over this, while Setmayer told him, “Just stop and say that what the president said was stupid.”
Matt Lewis said while Trump was “factually wrong,” what he said was not an “evil” thing.
Former Clinton spokesperson Brian Fallon reacted by calling Trump “your crazy uncle at the Thanksgiving table” who is “stubborn and willful in his ignorance.”
