John Bolton Named as New National Security Adviser, Replacing H.R. McMaster
John Bolton has been named new National Security Adviser, effective April 9. He will replace H.R. McMaster. President Donald Trump confirmed the news on Twitter.
I am pleased to announce that, effective 4/9/18, @AmbJohnBolton will be my new National Security Advisor. I am very thankful for the service of General H.R. McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend. There will be an official contact handover on 4/9.

Bolton, a former UN Ambassador, is a current Fox News contributor. This is just the latest big-name hire by Trump from the world of cable news. Recently, Trump named longtime CNBC on-air personality Larry Kudlow his chief economic adviser.
Bolton had been rumored to be a potential replacement for McMaster for a while now and was spotted at the White House at various times. He was also seen heading to the White House earlier today.
Meanwhile, McMaster has announced that not only has he agreed to resign from his position as national security adviser, he will also retire from the military after 34 years.
In a statement tweeted Thursday night, Bolton said, “It is an honor to be asked by President Trump to serve as his National Security Advisor. I humbly accept his offer. The United States currently faces a wide array of issues and I look forward to working with President Trump and his leadership team in addressing these complex challenges in an effort to make our country safer at home and stronger abroad.”
