Cable News Favorite ‘MyPillow’ Has BBB Accreditation Dramatically Lowered Over Deceptive Ad Claims

If you’re an avid cable news watcher, chances are you’ve seen Mike Lindell‘s commercials for MyPillow. Well, unfortunately for Lindell — who was a fervent supporter of Donald Trump‘s on the campaign trail, even appearing at debates —  the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has revoked his company’s accreditation due to a combination of customer complaints and false advertising.

The BBB lowered MyPillow’s rating from A+ to F after finding that the company violated advertising guidelines with their “buy one get one free” (BOGO) offer. According to KARE-TV, the price that was advertised was not a special bargain deal, but the actual product price.

“Continuous BOGO offers, which can then be construed as an item’s regular, everyday price, violate not only BBB’s Code of Advertising – which all BBB Accredited Businesses agree to abide by – but also other state and national organizations’ rules,” said Dana Badgerow, president and CEO of BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota.

The ratings drop doesn’t entail any legal or financial repercussions, but it does highlight a lack of transparency in MyPillow’s business practices, and also serves as an indicator for consumer trust. Lindell responded that he was “terribly disappointed” by BBB’s decision, and though he wouldn’t offer specifics, he said he would look at making changes in the future.

Customers have made other complaints against MyPillow in recent months, stating its “full warranty” policy is misleading and the product they received was not the same kind that was advertised. In November, MyPillow paid $1 million to settle a consumer protection lawsuit for overstating their product’s health benefits for things like insomnia and sleep apnea.
