Maddow on Bachmann’s Teabagger Rally: Don’t Know Much About American History?
Are you familiar with Michelle Bachmann yet? Perhaps you are on the receiving end of her many email newsletters without being entirely sure why. Bachmann is a congresswoman from Minnesota who appears to have seen which way certain winds are blowing in the Republican party, and has recently gone about trying to make herself over into some sort of Glenn Beck meets Sarah Palin combination. Yesterday, perhaps in an attempt to grab some of the spotlight before Sarah Palin reseizes the airwaves during her upcoming book tour, Bachmann threw a teabagger ‘Superbowl for Freedom’ party in D.C. where she encouraged people to ‘kill the [healthcare] bill.’
Rachel Maddow took some time on her show to vet a number of yesterday’s highlights, including Rep. John Boehner’s constitutional misstep, as well as taking a peek into the past statements of rally goers like Mark Levin who recently described Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor as “Ruth Bader Ginsburg plus about 50 pounds.”

Can we grow up please, and stop with the “teabagger” terminology? These are citizens peacefully protesting against the government takeover of their health care.
I just don’t get how you folks can think your commentary is serious when you use the term “teabagger”.

Glynnis needs to bone up on her own history and perhaps issue a correction to this report.. Even a quick google search will reveal this:

So Glynnis might need to wake up and smell the coffee — Maddow is not as smart as she pretends to be, or she can mess up just like anyone else can.

Actually, Rach, the Constitution DOES have a Preamble, and I doth quote:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Of course, if she or her crack fact-checking team at MSNBC had done their homework, they would have found “We hold these truths to be self-evident” does indeed come from the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence and not the Preamble to the Constitution as Boehner said.
Alas, when one fact checks, especially as arrogantly as Maddow does, you should be completely accurate or you end up looking like a bigger jackass than the person you’re mocking.
Did Maddow cover the ads by Corzine that were calling Christie fat? Did she cover Mike Malloy calling for Glenn Beck to commit suicide on the air?
And I agree with the others here, stop with the teabagger references. I won’t go so far as the obscene comments by sfernando, and find them over the top and uncalled for. But I do believe that if someone calls someone a tea bagger, they deserve to be called c*cksucker in return.
As for the handful of extreme posters at the event, I honestly have no doubt at this point that they were created and brought to the event by the Left with the sole purpose of getting them on the news, and making the Tea Party protesters look bad. The protesters know that these images are used against the movement, and do not benefit their cause. Either they are brought by a few extremists, who we know exist in BOTH PARTIES, or they are brought by people with the intent of smearing the protesters.

You’re right. The left started this while Bush was president, and they haven’t stopped. The LaRouche Group is mad because Obama won’t go left enough, and go for universal health coverage, but they really shouldn’t compare him to Hitler or the holocaust. Also, Tea Party organizers from all over the country urged attendees to not bring anything offensive or that can be used against the group to make them look bad. So, when the occasional whacked out sign does show up, there is very good reason to believe it is not a true tea party attendee.
