Nancy Pelosi Reportedly Calls Gibbs “Politically Inept” After MTP Remarks

video

Did Press Secretary Robert Gibbs know he was about to set off a firestorm this Sunday when he “stated the obvious” to David Gregory that there “are enough seats in play” for the GOP to take the House this November? Chances are, yes. This administration if far too media savvy to think a quote like that would do anything but set off a firestorm. Their motivation for doing so, however, remains unclear.

I’ve noted in earlier posts I thought this was the administration’s subtle attempt to have its cake and eat it too. Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher thinks this was “stealth attempt to energize the Democratic base, and all those Obama voters who said “Mission: Accomplished” after he was elected.” Which also makes sense — a lot of ink has recently been devoted recently to the lack of enthusiasm in Obama’s base.

One person who was apparently energized by Gibb’s comments was Nancy Pelosi, who apparently called Gibbs “politically inept” during Tuesday night’s House Democratic Caucus meeting. From CQPolitics:

Things heated up as Pelosi jumped in and blasted Gibbs for making “politically inept” comments, according to one source…“It was bad,” another source said. “She was like: ‘I don’t appreciate it. I don’t know who this guy is. I’ve never met him before. And he’s saying that we’re going to lose the House.’”

That certainly sounds energized (also, is it possible Gibbs and Pelosi don’t know each other?) The same report says that a White House legislative liaison told Pelosi he “did not think Gibbs’ comments were a coordinated statement.” What’s unclear is whether she believed this.

Meanwhile during a visit to Mission Neighborhood Centers in San Francisco Monday Pelosi was singing calmer tune. She told the audience there that “I don’t think there’s much likelihood [of Democrats losing control of the House], but anytime the White House wants to lower expectations, that’s okay with me.” Another theory entirely. Watch Pelosi’s remarks below.

Sounds like Nancy Pelosi is a little defensive about her impending loss of the Speakership. Maybe Obama needs to redefine NASA’s foremost mission as reaching out to Pelosi and the House Democrats to make them feel good about themselves.

Some of Nancy’s personal psychiatric team may have to drop in on Family Guy Gibbs for a check -up .

Nope, if you look back at some of even our own disagreements, INB. I can be fairly open-minded. I can admit when I’m wrong.

Nice job Reasonable! You disproved your “reasonable” and “open-minded” status in one post! Thanks!

By an 8-point margin the public say they’d prefer to see the Republicans take control of Congress. It’s a clear sign of GOP opportunities and Democratic risks going into the 2010 midterm elections, with 51 percent of poll respondents saying they would rather have Republicans run Congress “to act as a check on Obama’s policies.”

It looks like the public is sick of Obama/Pelosi politics. Gibbs just stated the obvious.

  • timzank

I hope when Frankensteins wife hands the gavel to Boehner he smacks her right square in that enormous forehead of hers with it.

Watching Nancy hand over the gavel to the GOP on national TV is going to be priceless… the talking heads over at MSDNC are going to explode.

  • Azarkhan

“stealth attempt to energize the Democratic base, and all those Obama voters” TC

Why be all “stealthy”? Why can’t the Democrats proudly run on their legislative centerpiece- Obamacare?
They would cruise to victory in November.

Let’s see, according to the latest CBS poll, released yesterday:
“Forty-nine percent of Americans now disapprove of the health care reform measure, according to the poll, which was conducted July 9 – 12. Thirty-six percent support the law.
In a May CBS News poll, 47 percent disapproved of the new laws, while 43 percent approved.”

OK, maybe not. Then the Democrats should definitely campaign on their success with fixing the economy.
Let’s see, unemployment rate in Sept 2008 was 6.1%.
Unemployment rate in July 2010 is…9.7%.

    Hmmmm.

How about foreign policy successes? Iran? China? Boosting Muslim self-esteem?

It looks like after 18 months in power, all the Democrats have to show for it is Pres Obama’s Nobel Prize.
    Well now there’s an idea….

I think Boehner will be “too drunk” to find Nancy’s forehead.

  • lazzzlo

That seriously has to be one of the more difficult governmental jobs to perform. One the one hand you have the White House giving their talking points that have to be stressed…no matter what administration.

On the other hand, you have the press. And some ask very difficult questions that the administration’s spokesman just can’t or won’t answer.

And they get stuck in the corner with no way out!

It’s fun watching them squirm but the reverse is also happening to the journalists who are becoming more and more desperate to get their moment as well.

What is the average tenure of a Press Secretary? I can’t figure it being more than 30 months.

Obama through Gibbs is throwing Pelosi under the bus because she has outlived her worth and they want her out of the way by November.

Hey folks, did ya hear the latest?

BHO refused to call Al Qaeda a terrorist organization. Heck, they are not even radical Muslims in his world.

But guess what he says now after they kill over 70 in Uganda?

    “They are racists!”

    I can’t believe this idiot.

“In an interview earlier today with the South African Broadcasting Corporation to air in a few hours, President Obama disparaged al Qaeda and affiliated groups’ willingness to kill Africans in a manner that White House aides say was an argument that the terrorist groups are racist. ”

“Explaining the president’s comment, an administration official said Mr. Obama “references the fact that both U.S. intelligence and past al Qaeda actions make clear that al Qaeda — and the groups like al Shabaab that they inspire — do not value African life. The actions of al Qaeda and the groups that it has inspired show a willingness to sacrifice innocent African life to reach their targets.”

Yep, Barry says ya can kill “whitey” that’s OK- they are not innocent- but if ya kill blacks, “you area racist!”

Somehow Barry, I don’t think AQ gives a crap that you think they are racists.

Even as President Obama compares bankers to suicide bombers, his Homeland Security Secretary is suggesting the T-word, terrorism, is too inflammatory and representative of old-fashioned “politics of fear.” She’s announced a new term: “man-caused disaster.” From an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel:

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word “terrorism.” Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

NAPOLITANO: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word “terrorism,” I referred to “man-caused” disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

I love watching the fools make assumptions off just one sentence.
I visited her in her office shortly after she was first elected to congress. I was with my friend Leo Lacayo, one of the leaders of the Nicaraguan community in S.F.. As she was just moving in to her office she did not have many visiters. We showed up in her office and we said we were from S.F.. So she invited us in and didn’t ask why we were there. We were there to lobby for support of the Contras in Nicaragua. She abrutly ended our meeting and asked us to leave. As I said, a real airhead. The Contras won in spite of her opposition.

Actually, Pelosi was appointed to office in April of 1987 and the Iran/Contra weapon sales were revealed in November of 1986.

That would have been a waste of money.

The Iran/Contra story did not stop support for the Contras. I was in the White House on Nov. 13th 1986. I was in the room when President Reagan announced the dismissal of Ollie North and others. An appointed takes the office of the previous Congressperson. When they get elected on their own they move to a different office. I was there after she was elected and was moving in to her new office. The Iran/Contra nonsense did not stop me or the other supporters of the effort to get rid of the Communists in Nicaragua.

There are photos of President Reagan in the East Room on Nov. 13th at the Reagan Library. I am in the first row in front of him.
