NBC’s Chuck Todd Blasts “Drudge Driven Journalism”

video

One of the reasons I started the “Inside the White House Press Corps” series was so that people could see a different side of the people who play a large part in guiding the American political narrative. In this preview of my interview with NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd, we see a more animated figure than we’re used to, discussing the “Drudge Effect” (my phrase) in journalism.

I added this question to the rotation based on this kerfuffle from a January briefing, in which Robert Gibbs claimed the press corps had accused the President of being overexposed. Chip Reid pointed out that we were merely asking about a criticism made by the pundits. Since then, most of the reporters I’ve spoken with have dismissed the bleed through as rather harmless, if it exists at all. Chuck Todd is another story, and I agree with him completely.

Says Todd: “There’s no worse crime in journalism these days than simply deciding something’s a story because Drudge links to it.”

Here’s the clip. The full interview will be online Monday.

> Update on Monday: Apparently Pat Buchanan’s been reading. Check out what he said of Todd on Daily Rundown today:

    TC!

I hate to say it…and I’m shocked that Chuck Todd doesn’t get it…..but the days when he and NBC or any of the “big news organizations” can decide what news “IS” are gone…they have been gone for a decade. I like Chuck, but his remarks in this interview just point out that he is treading water.

Glad to see you here on the weekends, btw.

“Says Todd: “There’s no worse crime in journalism these days then simply deciding something’s a story because Drudge links to it.”

Really?? That’s a bigger crime than to ignore a story simply because it doesn’t fit into the left wing ideological agenda?? *COUGH* John Edwards *COUGH*

Todd has no clue that he and the rest of the corrupt MSM are completely irrelevant anymore

The Drudge Report is my home page and I view it several times a day. I love it! For a man who never writes or says anything to have so much influence is simply amazing, and a tribute to Matt Drudge. Regardless of what his critics think, Mr. Drudge obviously has a finely developed sense for what is news. Otherwise, his site would not be so popular nor would he be able to “drive the news”.

I was thinking about how Drudge operates the other evening when he had the news that there had been a shooting at the Pentagon. He just had a headline and his trademark siren. Obviously no articles had been written yet that Drudge could link to for details. So I went and turned on the TV to find out. Shortly thereafter, Drudge had a link to ABC News.

So while I found out what had actually happened thru Fox News television and ABC News internet, Drudge still gets credit in my book for alerting me that something important had happened at the Pentagon, and that I should get off my ass and take a look. And he really didn’t have to do much at all.

How about the journalistic crime of plagarism, like Jason from the NYT a while back? How about the journalist crime of sinning by omission??? After listening to what Chris has said, I think he has some valid points, and some things that he falls down on. I agree with Chris when he says or implies that fact checking a story is an important thing to do, and that some stories are just opinion. I would even agree that asking the White House about every opinion based story is non-productive. Where I disagree, though, is in the larger picture, is the implication that the larger news organizations (like MSNBC and others) should be the sole determiners of what is and is not a story. This is not Chris’s fault directly, it’s his editors and management (like GE) that make a lot of these decisions. When they do a bad job, guess what, people go to Drudge to get news. Judging by the increase in hits on Drudge, and the long term decrease in viewers for the three big networks(since 1980, see nielsen media reports), a lot of people are unsatisfied with the big three’s choices and are getting their news from other sources.

OK, just watched BigJournalism’s video of him being confronted about this same issue. “The National Enquirer is now legit, according to the Pulitzer Prize Board.

The body behind journalism’s most prestigious award conceded Thursday that the self-proclaimed tabloid can compete with mainstream news outlets for its prizes. Because it broke the story about former presidential candidate John Edwards’s mistress and love child, the Enquirer’s staff is eligible for the Pulitzer in two categories: “Investigative Reporting” and “National News Reporting.”

Of course, the mainstream media hates Drudge. When they try to bury an important story or ignore it completely, he covers it. I can’t even begin to count the number of times he has linked to stories in the British press or other media sources that have been censored by the New York Times, the Washington Post, CBS, CNN, NBC, etc.

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:
Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Well, I suppose he has a point… there’s no need to take one source’s opinion as representative of the majorities opinion.

However… I think Todd’s comment represents a lot of what’s wrong with the current media (especially those who are considered more traditionally based… as I would include Todd)… they don’t know how to react to someone like Drudge, and are resentful that he’s a player at all. This isn’t politics (necessarily), it’s contempt for someone who doesn’t have to put in the same hours, the same work, the same effort that they do… and yet, they manage to greatly succeed. Drudge doesn’t attend the same meetings, the same press conferences, or travel the world… yet if you asked people which they recognized first, “Chuck Todd or The Drudge Report,” is there really any question who would win?

Furthermore, Drudge does very little reporting… so if he’s reporting a certain feeling, odds are it’s a story being written and reported elsewhere, and enough times, to warrant a posting. IMO, folks like Todd are annoyed that they’re no longer controlling the message… there are enough external forces (like Drudge) who are impacting their monopoly, and for a career journalist, that’s a problem.

  • felixw felixw says:
Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Let’s face it, Drudge would be out of business if the mainstream media didn’t hide stories that ran counter to their ideological bias. Drudge is not a journalist just a compiler of headlines, but still anyone who wants to stay informed needs to check out the Drudge Report, because folks like Chuck Todd at NBC prefer to “purify” and “cleanse” the news rather than do honest reporting.

But why would you source to Drudge when you could go to the original source? Can you explain that? Why someone would source something that was copied by 2 or 3 different sites.

Well, that’s the thing… nobody sources Drudge… or more aptly, the only people who source Drudge, are the people looking to attack Drudge. The source is the site Drudge linked to… perhaps the H/T (hat tip) goes to him for finding it, but not the citation.

Clearly, DRUDGE takes an ‘anti-Obama’ tone. You see it in the photos they choose, the headlines they run with (and the ones they choose to ignore or bury). Todd comes from the side of the tracks where Obama is coddled and protected and ‘propped up’ at every opportunity. You see it in the headlines they run with (and the ones they choose to ignore or bury). Todd is incensed that his pro-Obama narrative is being challenged by narratives that aren’t in lockstep with that view of this administration. He can wail and moan all he wants, but someone ought to simply say to the guy: “Welcome to the club of biased journalism.” If Todd wants to wield a sword called ‘Ideological bias,’ he’d better expect that he’s not going to be the only one carrying one. It’s like him holding a gun and then whining that “The other guy has one, too! No fair!”

I’ve used Drudge as my homepage for years, probably a decade or more. The links to so many news services in one spot serve my purpose wonderfully. That said, Chuck Todd has a hell of a point – It’s not the links to stories, it’s the way Drudge headlines them – or, better termed, pushes them. If all you read is Drudge’s headline you get very little of the story. Often, Drudge’s headline has no resemblance to the story itself. Drudge serves my purpose, but for journalistic credibilty or ethic look elsewhere.

On the other hand, Todd and his ilk’s problem is that they only care about the process in Washington, not the issues. We get 24/7 coverage of the political maneuvering, but almost nothing on the actual legislation.

Wouldn’t you like to see point-by-point discussions of, say, the health care bills? Instead we get nonstop coverage about “Do you think you have the votes? How will this affect the next election? Time and again, events have proven that he was right (Monica Lewinsky, John Edwards, ClimateGate, etc.), while the left wing media was refusing to report on a big story. The real “credibility problem” in the media is found with the journalists who try to bury the stories that Drudge uncovers.

If you look at Gallup or Rasmussen, the political ideology breaks down approximately 40% moderate, 40% conservative and 20% liberal. Conservatives have FNC and talk radio. Liberals have the three major networks, CNN, MSNBC, PBS and NPR. Independents have no one. If the executives at CNN had any sense they would attempt to balance their programming by replacing some of its all-liberal line up with conservatives or move hard right and chalenge Fox. When your stars are Jack Cafferty, Rick Sanchez, Anderson Cooper and Campbell Brown, you know you’re in trouble.

I don’t think most posters get it. The fact is that F. Chuck Todster and all of his MSM bozo buddies are just pissed off that their marketing product Mao Mao Bama is sinking into a ditch of obscurity because of his incompetence. That is why they hate Drudge. It makes them look like the dufus butts that they are. Drudge does not report news! He links to new sources and publishes them. Those clowns are so invested in Nobama that now their credibility is on the line and they are losing it. F. Chucky is nothing but a Nobama hack who probably gets envelopes full of cash under his door to prop up “the messiah”. His network is toast and he is going to have to go get a real job. How is that “hopey and changey” working for you F. Chucky?

Drudge does not drive the news, you nimrod, it just REPORTS it! Fancy that! And if you goons had been doing this for the past 30 years instead of being the torchbearers for liberalism and the democrat party, then perhaps you would be reporting the news and “driving” news. When media outlets like NBC and MSNBC violate their public trust and put their own slant on the news, reporting what they want and from their perspective, they should not be shocked when the American public tunes them out. Instead of getting mad, you should go back to doing your job like most of the rest of America has to do instead of playing the role of puppet for the Left.

It is amazing that people like same to you etc. use the same tired shit and name calling. Hey you left out nascar, trailer parks country music and the same tripe you progressive people always use, and Danny the Douche hey you must be getting your lines from the great Bill Mahr ,a guy whose comedy act couldn’t sell out sugar to a bunch of yellow jackets. NBC is nothing more than Obama’s pravda, and go listen to them after you are done mooching off the rest of the country. What I am going to love is when you whine and scream because you have to pay for health insurance that you won’t get benefits for, for 4 years. Now that is what I call smart. All of you people need to after you mooch off anyone who works , wear a sign that says “will be a genius ” for food. Because you are so much smarter than all of us,so keep watching Keith,Chuck and all the other Obama ass kissers that get a thrill up their leg. Oh, I forgot George Bush with the trailer parks etc. OLd Mr. Todd has little dick syndrome like the rest of you leeches Remember your great genius leader thinks a corpman is a corpse, there are 57 states and republicans can block something with a super minority. Too bad you cannot control what we read. Progressives are like the old south on steroids. Obama couldn’t run a lemonade stand and NBC news is anything but.

How I miss Tim Russert. Fair and balanced, he was the gold standard for White House correspondents. When I saw Chuck Todd appearing on Bill Maher (yes, I watched it) bashing conservatives I knew the last of the unbiased journalists at NBC were now history. Keep it up, NBC, your numbers are crashing along with the popularity of your idol, Barack Obama. All Matt Drudge does is give us the news from other sources that we want every day. Your refusal to cover those stories is quickly contributing to your demise.

I used to think that the lamestream media simply was being ugly and biased in their group think. Now, I realize that they have been so brainwashed since kindergarten that they don’t honestly know any different. The only way they even have a chance at beginning to understand is to stop, listen very carefully to their brethren while trying to ignore their built in bias. It is in the words they use, sentence structure, tone and body language. They really think they are telling us the truth….but, it is their truth and those of their handlers, not “the truth” as it really is. This is a very sad state of affairs for them because they have become almost completely irrelevant…just a few more years and they’ll disappear into the woodwork!!

Drudge is great. This lawyer also has his home page set to Drudge. From time to time (being undercover LOL) I visit the radical Commie site Daily KOS and say a few things bad about Obama if I can get away with it which I do from time to time. You have to be slick or they will ban you. I’ve been banned several times. Those people at Daily Kos are such loons that I can’t believe we’re on the same planet. After spending time there or watching MSNBC, you begin to think they all need to be put out of their misery and if that were to happen the world would be a better place. So if we do eventually have a civil war and I would rather have a civil war than see radical statist pathological lying narcisscist Marxist/Fascist Obama prevail with his agenda to destroy this country. Cyberwar declared as China hunts for the West’s intelligence secrets

Urgent warnings have been circulated throughout Nato and the European Union for secret intelligence material to be protected from a recent surge in cyberwar attacks originating in China.
The attacks have also hit government and military institutions in the United States, where analysts said that the West had no effective response and that EU systems were especially vulnerable because most cyber security efforts were left to member states…

In the US, an official report released on Friday said the number of attacks on Congress and other government agencies had risen exponentially in the past year to an estimated 1.6 billion every month.

You mean like the “faith” based institution called Planned Parenthood who murders millions of baby and wants the rest of us to pay for it? Or ACORN, whose faith and worship in their Messiah Obama, who wants us to pay someone else’s mortgage?

I see you have a problem with Christianity. You do because your father is still Satan and Satan hates Christians and the Jews. You’re a man or woman condemned to hell already. We all are. That is not my words, but the words of Jesus in the bible. You could escape hell by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, for He said I am the way, the truth, and the life, and NO MAN comes to the FATHER but BY ME. He also said you must be born again. But unless a miracle happens you’ll still hate anything and everything to do with the true God and you will die in your sins if you reject Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. But most of the world is headed for hell. Jesus said wide is the path that leads to destruction and many will follow it.

But guess what? Christians won’t force you. You’re free to burn in hell for eternity. I’m reminded of a quote, i.e. The false “god” Allah and his false prophet Mohammad say “SUBMIT”!!! Jesus says Decide…

So live your life, but don’t expect US to pay for it and/or accept it. We have the right to not be contaminated by your ways and/or hate. We don’t have to accept perversion and or submit to your religion of humanism. See you at the judgement.

NBC dramas like law and disorder, all 29 variants, make political plugs in their scripts. NBC is MSNBC, unfair and unbalanced if you are a conservative or your name is PALIN. Ok, Michelle, I will “man-up” (unlike Danny at the Dollar Dump). Bias was always been the domain of individual reporters until Fox News came into existence. Fox News was created to be a right wing news organization and has programmed individual reporters to be right-leaning partisans, even when it is not in their nature.

MSNBC has followed suit to some extent, although I see a history of right wingers having their very own political shows. And yes, I know some of you will say dishonestly with a straight face Greta.

Statists tend to favor a great deal of government control over individual behavior and over the economy. That’s why WordIQ.com defines “statism” as “any social or political system in which state intervention plays a major role.” The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines it as a “concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government.” Some statists call their political beliefs socialism, or communitarianism. At the extreme, undemocratic end of the statist spectrum, statism also encompasses communism.

Sounds an awful lot like left wingers to me.

I am always amazed how Liberals despise DRUDGE for simply linking to a story or source they personally find offensive simply because it may report a story unfavorable to their ideology. It is plain proof the left indulges in bias of the sort that simply refuses to report on stories unfavorable to their side.

A great example is the failure to report on the stunning fall in the polls of Obama’s popularity and that of his signature issues of health care and climate issues. After seeing day in and day out polls SHOUTING his high poll numbers we now must go to DRUDGE or directly to the pollster web sites to get the info. We only are seeing coverage of Rangles problems after TWO YEARS of investigations because DRUDGE has highlighted the links to some overseas newspapers covering this and has forced the media here to cover the story.

The same thing happened when TIME MAG sat on the Monica Lewinski story and if not for DRUDGE releasing it it would likely never have seen the light of day. When DRUDGE links to Republican scandals and/or wrongdoing we here not a peep from the likes of Chuck Todd or anyone else on the Left.

I happen to rely mainly on Drudge and for years all of the MSM were driven by The New York Times/Washington Post cabal. In truth, both main sources are only feeding to their constituents what a select view decide. Anyone whose eyes and mind are open know that the NY Times feed was/is totally left leaning and has them to where they have become dangerous for the country by acting as the Tass/Izvestia news supplied in the old Soviet Union. To me, Drudge is pretty much in the middle, regardless of the charges from the extreme left. And with the huge amount of lengthy contracts non-US firms received from oil industry in Iraq, that BAD decision to have us fighting there after 9-11, well, what about following the oil (the equivalent of following the money $$$) –> and the MSM finally recognizing that this was not a decision based upon oil. No one is going after the Fed except the next candidate for President Ron Paul, whom I will vote for, if we want to fix America and put it on the right track. Mr. Bovine, thank you for continuing to break that stereotype that the far left is unable to hear differing opinions without having tantrums and resorting to name calling. And there’s a difference between statists and communists, although it’s subtle. Our government does indeed have programs that lean more toward socialism. That doesn’t make us a socialist government. However, if your political philosophy leans toward wanting more such programs, not less, then that tends to be the left wing point of view, and thus closer to the statist definition. As for media bias, GE owns NBC and MSNBC. The chairman is Jeffrey Immelt, a liberal Democrat. Disney owns ABC. The chairman is Robert Iger, a liberal Democrat. Time Warner owns CNN. The chairman is Jeffrey Bewkes. A liberal Democrat. The chairman of News Corp, owner of Fox, is Rupert Murdoch. The lone conservative in the bunch.

Chuck Todd stated “There’s no worse crime in journalism these days than simply deciding something’s a story because Drudge links to it.”. Come on Todd there are three sides to every argument, the two opposing sides and the truth. Drudge reports the other side of the story and lets the people decide who is more accurately reporting the story. Many of the reports that are reported on the Drudge Report are never or seldom reported on the local networks. The founding fathers included freedom of the press in the 1st amendment because they felt the press should have the power to report the truth with our fear, like how our government is really governing and report it to the people. Instead the media has taken sides. Todd since you could not give an example in your clip I’ll give you two. During the presidential election the main stream media had more negative reports on John McCain than Barrack Obama. Look how the main stream media viciously covered Sarah Palin and attacked Palin, her husband and worst of all her children. I didn’t see or read about any attacks on Obama his wife, “For the first time in her life she is proud of her country”, or the Obama children. Whats about the mother inlaw moving into the white house, I don’t hear any wise as* jokes. If a person falls within the beliefs of the main stream media, they will protect them and suger coat any negative fallout. The main stream media has become a propaganda machine for the left. This is why the main stream media has lost viewers on their news networks. They still dominate the intertainment part.

Is Chuck Todd aware that the Drudge Report writes virtually nothing?

Obviously if Drudge is linking to it, SOMEBODY ELSE thought it was newsworthy enough to write about it before he ever did.

Furthermore, most of the stories Drudge links to were written by the same mainstream media that Todd thinks should ignore the Drudge Report. The irony is richer than cheesecake.

Drudge simply highlights stories that are usually buried on page A26 of the New York Times, or highlights bias by the mainstream media as stated in their own words.

Drudge doesn’t create anything. He simply reiterates what you report, as was the case with this very story Chuck! You should just be thanking him for giving you a lot more hits on your stories than you deserve.

As to the basis of this thread, NBC is SOL on this.
The days of oligarchic news control are *over*, unless Obama shoves through radio and internet censorship.
The (former) big 3 news networks and newspapers brought this on themselves by spiking stories and tolerating their journalists becoming openly involved as advocates. Dan Rather comes to mind, but Stephanapolis does, too.

Why are Liberals so afraid of dissenting opinions? Why there only one Republican on MSNBC? Why is he on at 3 a.m. and why does he have to flanked by no less than 3 Liberal commentators at all times?

This from a guy who works for a network where Chris Matthews, Keith-O, Rachel Maddow and David Gregory anchor their political news coverage on election night.

Just go to Drudge right now, and see another story that that the mainstream media would like to ignore. The President’s chief of staff threatens a congressman while he is naked, and in the shower. You would think this would be an important story on the New York Times web site. And, in truth, the Times will be forced to cover it. But only because Drudge forces their hand by giving its such prominence on his site.

This kind of game plays out every week. Drudge gets the story out, and then the left-wing media either ignores it (if they think the story will just go away), or they are forced to cover it, but always reluctantly and late to the party.

These propaganda-mill “journalists,” hacks and shills of the far Left Democrap Party proved themselves willing to betray America and its people by refusing to bring to light Obama’s Alinsky-ite/Communist background and mentoring, his very murky upbringing, his radical America-hating associations BEFORE the elections, instead misleading lame brained sheeple into idolizing a man as “messiah” who very much has feet of manure. All to promote their own agenda of inflicting a permanent hegemony of the Left on America. Chuck Todd and his colleagues deceived the public who voted this thug into office, and now we all suffer. I see that a couple of posters are debating “statism” here — the idea that “the state” [we call these skunks "the government" here in America] should control all things in society.

What this country needs is a truly LIBERAL president and congress! And I forgive the reader for suspecting that this must be some kind of bad joke!

But the Democrats believe in “statism” — not “liberalism.”

They benefit from the imprecise American political terminology —- we say “the government” here in the USA —- rather than “the state.” And that’s a dangerous problem.

Famous brands of statism in recent centuries have been Nazism, socialism, fascism, communism, and welfare statism —- this last is sort of a mix of fascism and socialism.

Liberalism, on the other hand, is a political philosophy of small, cheap government —- it is a constabulary —- and the job of a liberal government is to enforce human rights within its own jurisdiction.

I speak of the inalienable and perfectly-natural and universally-valid human rights of life, liberty, private property, and the pursuit of personal happiness.

The first article of private property is “the self” and all other rights are derivatives of and flow from these cardinal rights.

These rights —-The Rights of Man —- are the gift of nature or of nature’s god —- and they belong to all human beings, everywhere.

Show me a Democrat who subscribes to all of the above, without qualifications or weasel words.

The words “liberal” and “liberalism” were hijacked by the Democrats and socialists and fascists long ago —- and it was the mistake of conservatives and libertarians to let them get away with it.

It is long past time that liberalism be reclaimed, defined, and explained by its rightful owners —- by the champions of freedom, i.e.: not by Democrats.

Well, how about “progressivism?” Whuzzat?! Isn’t that just another statist cancer? It chews you up, piece by piece, in the name of Da Peepul? Eat Da Rich? Moral cannibalism, anyone?

Friends of freedom! Friends of peace-through-strength! And friends of prosperity! Declare yourselves to be “liberals,” then —- and kick over the bloody coffee tables — and overthrow and trounce the Democrats in 2010 and 2012!

I credit Drudge for much of the heavy lifting involved in exposing OhBummer and the OhBummer Wrecking Crew. Now widely seen for what he is, the president presents a problem for the Democrat-captured media. They pump out his propaganda for him — and, like the opinion monitors in Ayn Rand’s novel, “Atlas Shrugged” — they are dodging brickbats and rotten vegetables. He’s pompous, pampered, and pretentious — a pseudo-intellectual fop. He’s a glorified, smooth-lyin’ dandy, and slicker than Sick Willie Clinton. He’s a dictator-on-the-make, a bloodsxcking, predatory humanitarian thug, and a low-down skunk. He lies when he inhales and he lies when he exhales; his oxygen is the falsification of reality. He is a friend of the poor and the downtrodden — indeed, you can hear the milk of human kindness sloshing around inside of him when he walks. He declares himself the post-racial leader — “Let me clear!” he intones — and he hides behind his race, daring his critics to put their reputation for fairness at risk. He pauses to ponder the portent of his propaganda — and it is fakery; he smiles and his mendacity comes shining through. Shake hands with Barak Hushpuppy OhBummer — “The Mistake of ‘08” — and America’s first and last Arab president. Now count your fingers.

Writers, like philosophers, are a worthless lot, contributing nothing to the betterment of anything. Wordsmiths are largely pedantic pinheads that get off on turning cute phrases. What they do, their jobs, benefits no one. The garbageman picks up our waste and a postman delivers our mail, both performing jobs that are important, jobs that if not done would impose some measurable hardship to end users. Contrast that with an opinion writer, vsa “who, what, where, when” reporter. Were these “writers” to never publish a word nothing would be affected. They write to incite, to amuse themselves. They believe readers think they are special. We enough real life problems. We don’t need pithy agitators venting the tired negative trash of the old new left

Wrong. Drudge is helping to CLEAN UP the corrupt criminal MSM and their criminal propaganda.

Gone are the days when the likes of Dan Rather can manufacture evidence and get away with it. Drudge, blogs and talk radio give voice to stories that would never see the light of day if it were up to the public relations arm of the Democrat party (ie, the MSM). Without the new media, Rather would have gotten away with his crime and we’d STILL be in the dark on the slimebag John Edwards.

Drudge has been a blessing for truth and honesty in reporting. But there’s still more work to be done, as the leftwing MSM demonstrated in their cover up of Barack Maobama’s connections to terrorists, criminals, racists and radicals — as well as his academic records, health records and everything else. In the near-future, the corrupt MSM will not be able to get away with such skullduggery.

The Democrat party’s propaganda arm’s days are numbered. And I for one look forward to the day the bankruptcy dominoes start to fall.

The Drudge Report got its readership from reporting news the so-called “major media” failed to report. The media is supposed to be the third rail of politics because it is so crucial in evaluating everything in our lives. When the major players; NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC fail to report news or have a particular slant on the news that we do not like, we have another source that can be depended on as accurate and without political bias . . . FOX News is fair and balanced and the Drudge Report has documentation where you can cross check your stories not simply be propagandized with media bias!! By the way, with all the excoriating criticism of FOX News by the other networks, their ratings have skyrocketed. As I understand it, Bill O’Reilly is now top dog.

There are two problem withs Toddy Boy — in fact, with all of MSNBC.

    1) Let’s be honest. They just flat out HATE that someone like Drudge interferes with their pro-Obama agenda. Case in point, right after the election, Todd’s comrade in arms Chris Matthews declaring…on the air no less…that it was his JOB to “make sure that Obama succeeded”. Which was obviously the height of hypocrisy. After all, when Bush was elected did Matthews say THEN that it was his patriotic duty to “make sure” Bush succeeded? Hell no. He…like the rest of the staff at MSNBC…felt it was his patriotic duty to always question things and to press at Bush in an aggressive Woodward and Bernstein Washington Post / Watergate style.

    2) But the BIGGEST problem with Todd’s whiny brat complaining is there is a BIG difference between Fox and MSNBC. And that’s the pure simple fact that even if you accuse Fox of taking a few “talking points” from the Drudge web site, at least Fox DOESN’T have Drudge actively on the air all the time, peddling his personal politics.

Meanwhile, in direct comparison at MSNBC, not only DO they pick which stories to cover based on “talking points” from the Huffington Post and the Daily Kos — but worst of all, the network DOES actively promote Arianna Huffington and Markos Moulitsas as two of their core political commentators, at which point they are NEVER challenged. MSNBC just gives them unfettered air time to use MSNBC as their personal propaganda broadcast outlet.

Of the few that do ask this obvious question, most will further extend the attacks to the people who read Drudge (and of course watch Fox news). They’ll call those people rednecks, hicks, tea-baggers, and even racists. They’ll portray them as hateful, intellectually inferior, and simple-minded but only a scarce few will ever confront the fact that people are just plain old sick and tired of only hearing one side of the story.
