Um, Who Is Running Sarah Palin’s Social Media Dept.?
In so many ways former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin is leading the social media charge where politicians are concerned. She boasted a heavily followed Twitter account back in July before she shuttered it after resigning her post, and since then has famously taken to Facebook where she almost single-handedly derailed President Obama’s health care bill with her “death panel” assertions. Obama has frequently been referred to as the first Internet President for his use of the Web during campaigning but should Sarah Palin really make a run for it in 2012 she may deserve the Internet crown.
That is if her new media staff (should they exist in plural) can get their act together! Palin has reportedly just signed up for a LinkedIn account — the social media-ish website for your work life — and has posted her resume there. The hitch? Her LinkedIn profile is registered under ‘governorsarahpalin.’ As most people in the Western World are aware, Palin quit being governor in July. So what’s the deal? Seems Palin and her staff weren’t quick enough off the draw: as Gawker points out SarahPalin has already been nabbed by someone who is using the account to make fun of the former Gov. It’s unclear whether LinkedIn has a similar rule to Twitter which forbids fake accounts (hence the creation of the “verifed” label), but even so, shouldn’t someone have thought ahead?
This is not the first time Palin has run into the sort of problem with her name domain. As we noted back in July when we tried to discern where Palin would next land in the Twitterverse, many of her options had already been scooped up by others. Perhaps this was the motivation to encouraged her turn to Facebook. Anyway, while she’s in the branching out mood perhaps Palin might consider staking claim on a SarahPalin YouTube channel and then, you know, perhaps begin the infiltration of her own Gawker hash tag.

Anyone who has seen an authentic Sarah Palin-produced speech or written document knows she isn’t doing/producing any of her Social Media stuff as she comes from the Michele Bachmann school of “thought” — where a smile and a wink open doors and learn’n and think’n is something other folk do.

Bill O’Reilly Will Not Let This Tom Hanks Thing Go

Bill O'Reilly continued his not-at-all personal attack on Tom Hanks again last night, bringing on retired Lieutenant Colonel and Fox analyst Ralph Peters to discuss why Hanks has to "inject racism" into his new mini-series about the War Against Terror in Hanks' new mini-series with Steven Spielberg, The Pacific. And this has nothing to do with last week, when Tom Hanks made fun of Fox News Italy, as evidenced by the fact that O'Reilly still continues to insist that Hanks is both a patriot and a pinhead.
Bill Maher: “Regrettable?” That There Is Religious Prejudice In America?
Is it news that Bill Maher (whose background you must remember is in comedy, not politics) took a recent airline incident between rapper Sky Blue and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a chance to make a joke about how "the Mormons traditionally have not had a great relationship with 'the black people'?" Absolutely not. Maher's whole shtick is to be even more outrageous than Glenn Beck, under the guise of "It's all for laughs."
