You’ll Never Guess Bernie Sanders’ Secret Service Codename

This morning at 8:09, Bill Press revealed Bernie Sanders‘ Secret Service codename on Twitter.

Are you ready?

You’re not ready.

Bernie Sanders has a Secret Service nickname. You heard it here first:

Like he said, you heard that Sanders is known as Intrepid there first.

It didn’t take long for other outlets to pick it up, including your beloved Mediaite.

Let’s examine what Intrepid is all about.

Oxford English Dictionary says this:

Syllabification: in·trep·id

Pronunciation: /inˈtrepəd/

Fearless; adventurous (often used for rhetorical or humorous effect):our intrepid reporter

Sanders is pretty fearless on the basketball court, so that definition makes sense.

Maybe, though, he was named for something a little more patriotic! The USS Intrepid was an aircraft carrier in World War II. The ship is famous for its longevity and for being the backdrop of an episode of The Colbert Report! Sanders has appeared on Comedy Central late-night shows. Coincidence? I think not.

So, there you have it. Sanders, who won the popular vote in the New Hampshire primary, is Intrepid.
