It took only a few minutes for President Donald Trump’s newly-declared “Lake America” to get the love it/hate it treatment of today’s politics, with critics appalled at the change while MAGA followers salivated over the “top-tier trolling.”

Trump signed an executive order in the Oval Office on Thursday to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. The announcement comes amid a tense trade deal battle between the U.S. and Canada.

Trade talks between the nations fell apart and Trump has since vowed a 50% tariff on Canadian imports, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has promised to match those tariffs “dollar for dollar.”

Trump joked during his signing of the order that an ocean may be renamed next.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum wrote on X, “We’re on it, Mr. President! The places and waters that border our nation and support our economy should reflect the greatness of the United States.”

Trump supporters, MAGA followers, and some conservatives loved the name change and quickly celebrated Trump’s move against Canada.

“THE LAKE AMERICA TROLL JUST BECAME AN EXECUTIVE ORDER,” Glenn Beck wrote in response to a previous post calling Trump’s “Lake America” a “top tier” troll.

Trump’s critics, liberal and otherwise, meanwhile gave the name change a beating, calling Trump a “child,” a “moron,” and chalking up the executive order as a “national embarrassment.”

“This is why we can’t have nice things,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) wrote on X.

Other lawmakers like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) also attacked the name change.

“No, President Trump. The American people don’t want to rename Lake Ontario Lake America,” the senator wrote, telling Trump to focus on healthcare and other issues.

“Pitiful morons,” journalist John Harwood wrote.

“Anyone who unironically calls Lake Ontario “Lake America” should be ruthlessly mocked. Dumbest sh*t imaginable,” Bulwark editor Sonny Bunch added.

Trump again slammed Canada while signing his new order, saying, “the whole Canadian thing …has to come to a stop.” He accused Canada of taking advantage of the U.S. in past trade deals and charging high tariffs.

“We can’t let the whole Canadian thing that’s been going on for decades and it has to come to a stop. So we are going to be doing tariffs on their cars that are coming in at a substantial level because we want to make the cars here,” he said. “They can make their own cars if they want and they can continue to make cars for Canada but we don’t want them to make cars for the United States of America. It’s very simple. Likewise many other products.”
