Bill O’Reilly On CNN’s Japan Coverage: ‘Are We All Going To Be Mutants?’

Video

On The Factor tonight, Bill O’Reilly took on, again, the question of how much people, including those of us here in the U.S., should worry about the situation at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

O’Reilly played a clip of (CNN’s spin off) HLN’s Nancy Grace sparring with a weatherman over whether radiation leaking from Japan will result in California children growing extra heads. He then told his guest, radio host Laura Ingraham, that he’s happy with his shows’ coverage of the disaster in Japan, saying that he hasn’t “hyped” the situation.

O’Reilly then gave CNN something of a backhanded compliment: Hyping the story and giving in to speculation over whether “we’re all going to become mutants” has given CNN a competitive advantage over rival network MSNBC. Then, a… fronthanded compliment? O’Reilly conceded that, despite the hype, he believes CNN is a “very, very good news-gathering agency” that he respects.

Take a look at the segment, via Fox News:

The only way Bill will let Laura talk is if she writes a poem about him .
    Let’s hear Laura Ingraham .

saying that the network hasn’t “hyped” the situation.

    Well, no he didn’t.

Is Hotelroom Harrigan covering the Japan situation too?

More wishful thinking then hype . Lets face it all the news networks and talking heads get wood when bad things happen . It pays them well !

Funny you say that . I watch Fox most the time . But when things like Japan happen I switch two CNN after FOX gives their spill . Cause they become so redundant .

  • Dem4Ever

CNN latches on to a story and beats it to death.  They literally run with a story 24 hrs a day.  I’ve even seen them report on trucks backing up on a road and flags flapping in the breeze and calling it *BREAKING NEWS*.  They have gotten so bad I’ve removed the channel from my favorite list.  They are B O R I N G!

No problem. Hit your back button, scroll down to the story right here on Mediaite that say’s: CNN Beats Fox. Anything else I can help you with, Just let me know. PS: In Internet Explorer The Back Button is at the Far LEFT Top of the Browser. No Pun Intended. Ok, Yes thier is. lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph-Glackin/100000892011713 Joseph Glackin

ImNotBlue and the rest of the truescrewdcrew spend one hell of a lot of time worrying about other people’s numbers. As if, ratings meant accuracy. As if, ratings meant anything beyond the sales effect of the product.
The higher the ratings, the more crap the Network can sell. Fox (NewsCorp) is, hands down, the best purveyors of crap in the entertainment business. Case closed
Now, why don’t all you number freaks go back to measuring your ptuzes, and leave those of us who have passed puberty to have a conversation.

So correct me if I’m wrong… but it looks like CNN won “the demo” at 10pm… but lost in every single category and time period before and after that.

WOW! And now, let’s compare the original statement:

Hmmm… I dunno, cmd. Does “destroyed in the ratings” mean, “beaten in the demo, during one daypart?” I don’t think so.

Well, that wasn’t “today’s” ratings. They don’t come out that fast. That was Tuesday’s ratings.

Oh, and as you can see if you scroll up, I was responding to cmd’s comment about how to figure out if your “theory” was correct or not.

Shall we play the same game with last week’s numbers? Nah. The result will be the same.

anderson cooper pretty much always won during the japan disaster…and what’s really pitiful for o’reilly in particular…is that IN THE ARENA a show no one’s heard of hosted by a slime ball came this close to beating him

“Pretty much always won,” is now equal to “completely destroyed?” Wow… who knew?!

Oh, and if you think nobody’s heard of “Anderson Cooper,” then you’re quite wrong. He also works for “60 Minutes,” has substitute hosted and appeared on a number of network programs, has been around for many years now. All that… and of course that O’Reilly and Cooper aren’t really on at the same time. O’Reilly’s RE-RUN -which beat Cooper’s live program- is on, but other than that, it’s tough to compare.

Don’t agree? Find me the numbers to prove your statement.

And even though he said they were a good news gathering organization, you believe he was angry that they beat him in the ratings… even though, as I said a moment ago, they didn’t?

I’d like to know how it is that you can complain about someone “stealing” YOUR name, while applauding someone else, for doing the same. It seems that you have no problem, when it’s someone else getting mocked… but you’re very upset when it’s happening to you.

That strikes me as pretty hypocritical… and as I said in the original post, looks like you need to give someone an apology (perhaps the people you were mocking for whining that their name had been “stolen”). Really, it’s all pretty well outlined in that post.

But as always, I assume you’ll either run away, or pretend that you just don’t understand.

    Same as always.

ImNotBlue– Ten hours after your denial of care in the matter of ratings, you are still blathering on about them!
Give it up, you’re a numbers freak!
You probable can recite Hobie Landrum’s career batting average.
What is this obsession with numbers? Especially other people’s numbers?
As I said last night, it only proves who has the better act. Not who is right. Or truthful.
Did your mother make you wear mittens, so you couldn’t count your fingers?
Well, pull off your socks and have yourself an orgy!
Most of us are just bored to tears with the numbers fetish.
