Blogger Who Busted The “Craigslist Congressman” Talks To CNN’s Piers Morgan

It’s been a sensational–but short–story: Rep. Chris Lee, resigning just hours after Gawker published a story suggesting he’d sent shirtless photos of himself to a woman he connected with via Craigslist. The story moved so quickly Wednesday evening (hitting just in time for the primetime cable news shows, fortunately) the scandal had nearly run its course before the author of the original blog post even got her proverbial fifteen minutes. Thankfully, CNN’s Piers Morgan was able to squeeze in a few moments during his live (with studio audience, no less) interview of Donald Trump for Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor, who seemed delighted to be there.

O’Connor says the story that cost Lee his job began with a message from a woman claiming to have had a “crazy chance encounter with a Congressman.” She’s the woman who’d placed an ad on Craigslist that got a response from “fit, fun and classy” Lee. The photos and email address, the woman later learned, matched up to the Republican from New York, Lee.

O’Connor says “we don’t actually have evidence of him getting together with this woman or cheated on his wife,” and notes that Lee made little to no effort to cover his tracks. Perhaps the best comment came directly after the interview, when The Donald said “he should resign because he’s stupid.”

The Donald said “he should resign because he’s stupid.”

hehe! that’s what i said, too!

    hahah good point!

i don’t demand someone step down if they had an affair, like sanford, or edwards if he had been in office, but trolling craigs list for chicks, using his real name, and emailing half nude pics of himself? come on – that is stupidity, and who wants someone that idiotic serving in office? haha

  • paulmdoro

If the Donald’s rule applied, there’d be hardly anyone left in Congress.

  • errxn

    Oh, it was Gawker. SHOCKING.

    true! haha

Also, nice to see that CNN is calling the Gawkerites “reporters,” now.

Not surprising in a time where Tommy C gets a seat at Whitehouse briefings.

This is another little amusing story. Relative to Senators Ensign and Vitter and former Governor Sanford, this is little more than poor judgment. Of course, the Old Ball and Chain may see it very differently. As well she should.

What is particularly amusing to me is that this guy obviously thought he looked good. To be sure, he’s no Lard Limbaugh, and he wouldn’t be a huge embarrassment to his family on the beach, but as a sex god, he is a miserable failure. Well, the male has always been the more vain of the species.

Come on, Michelle. It’s a fun story. Don’t be so nasty just because you can be. Let’s enjoy this. Think how much funnier this would be if it were Representative Nadler.

  • ImNotBlue

The Donald’s point is right on.

The guy only sent a goofy picture of himself shirtless to a willing participant. That alone is hardly reason to lose ones job… remember the Bill Clinton rule of, “what happens in the bedroom is not the public’s concern.”

But for being so dumb as to use his name, show his face, and apprently think nobody would notice is more troubling. IOW, that shows how dopey this guy apprently is. Making him leave was the right call.

  • ModerateMan

How is Gawker considered a respected news site when they blacklist Breitbart’s “big” sites? Is Gawker’s horrible sex story on Christine O’Donnell considered good journalism while Breitbart’s unedited clip of Shirley Sherrod considered bad journalism? WTF?

  • Harry Flashman

While the left gloats and high-fives about this they miss a cautionary lesson. Two, actually:

Who broke this story? A blogger. Not the NYT or Time or Newsweek or any of the networks who sniff and hold the new media in disdain. A blogger brought down a sitting congressman.

And, guess what? The left can gloat all they want but they need to remember that this is a blade with two edges. ALL politicians, even on the left, need to take note as well – the people are watching now. The comfortable filter of the main stream media won’t be enough to keep their stupidity from the public eye.

This is exactly why the MSM despises bloggers. They’re doing the job that the American media doesn’t want to do.

    Fun, ain’t it?

  • paulmdoro

Is there really that much gloating and high-fiving going on about this?

  • TfT

And this is why Piers and CNN are in last place in the ratings; he actually gave this person some air time.

    LOL

Only on CNN does something worthy of a gossip site make it on air in prime time.

Too funny Piers, giving Gawker a prime time appearance tells us all we need to know about Piers and CNN.

Let me see, Pelosi said she was going to empty the swamp. Rangle and Waters are still there. Jefferson, Grayson wouldn’t step down they had to be defeated. Pelosi wouldn’t do anything.
The new speaker said he wouldn’t put up with nonsense, BOOM, this guy is gone in ONE DAY.

I’m sure O’ Conner was pleased having multiple orgasm for her 15 minutes of fame.

    paul asks:

“Is there really that much gloating and high-fiving going on about this?”

Yeah, there is. Check out some of the left’s websites and the comments from the readers. BUT, that being said, there isn’t a lot of defense of this guy from the right even though he was a Repub.

He’s certainly not getting any sort of defense from me. Like I said in another thread – good riddance.

  • paulmdoro

Was he a big family values guy? Sometimes people like seeing hypocrites exposed.

  • Harry Flashman

    paul:

“Was he a big family values guy?”

Doesn’t matter. If he’ll lie and cheat on his wife he’ll damn sure lie and cheat on the American public. I doubt he’d have any greater sense of honor with the public than he would with the woman he married.

Like I said – good riddance.

No I meant that might explain the gloating. I know it doesn’t matter.

Dunno ’bout that Harry. It only took the Left Stream Media about 3 hours to jump all over this and get Lee’s resignation. Remember, we’re talking about the DCMMAN (Democrat Campaign Media Masquerading As News). Look at how many years it took them to come clean about Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and John Edwards? DemoCrits……………thy name is ‘Hypocrisy.’

Massa quit. Your own Speaker is having affair with the paper lady. Before you start burping up a storm. You better check with your own family values senators Ensign and Vitter. Rangle was censured Grayson didn’t do anything wrong.
