CBS’ Bob Schieffer Is Not Happy! Scolds Senators For Taking Too Many Vacations

Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer couldn’t fathom why members of Congress get so much vacation time and voiced his frustration with Republican Senator Mark Kirk and Democratic Senator Chris Coons. Neither freshman senator was able to offer Schieffer an explanation that satisfied him, yet what perturbed him the most was that a bunch of Senators took a taxpayer-funded trip to Macau, the gambling capital of Asia.

Possibly angry that he had to work on Easter Sunday, Schieffer complained:

“Most of us – if you’re Jewish you get Passover off and if you’re Christian you get Good Friday off. But the Congress is taking two weeks off. President’s Day you took a week off. If I’m not mistaken, this is now five vacations since January that the Senate and the Congress have taken. Why?”

Kirk and Coons both agreed that they are frustrated with the slow pace of how the Senate works. Yet Schieffer’s point seems valid, maybe if the Senators were on vacation less often, then more might be able to be accomplished in the Senate quicker?

Schieffer can go back into his semi-catatonic state for another two years, Congress on vacation or not, with that bum Obama still in the White House nothing ( of any substance ) will be getting done, period.

On the other hand, congress wasn’t intended to be a full time job, it was supposed to be citizen legislators. In fact, one of the considerations upon choosing DC as the seat of government (outside of a handful of rich guys getting richer through land sales) was the fact that it was a hot, muggy swamp, and it was thought that congress would want to get their business done quickly and get the hell out. Sort of a shame how quickly it became a full time game of the ultra wealthy.

What’s sad is that Bob has no friggin’ clue why the Senate majority leader and and other Senate leaders would travel to China. The friggin’ senile old bastard thinks it was a vacation and not some secret trade mission.
What’s he think….that Harry Reid out of the blue rounded up nine other Senators and said “Hey I got a swell idea…let’s go to Macau. It’ll be fun.”

It never even dawns on him to question why such a powerful delegation went to China.

I’m glad Sen. Coons was able to come around to the point that when the Senate is in recess, it doesn’t necessarily mean the senators are on vacation. After all, Schieffer starts the clip talking about some people’s claim that Congress isn’t listening to them, so it’d be hard to argue that the solution would be for Szenators to spend more time in Washington, less in the district.

As for the Maucau trip, I don’t know the specifics, but one would think that a trip to China could be the nation’s business and though he mentions Steve Wynn, I assume gambling mecca to gambling mecca outreach would be in Nevada’s overall interest.

His handicap is that he is limp-wristed. As for Golf, he keeps that a secret along with his BC and College Transcripts. Some say it is to drive his opponents crazy, but this is hard to fathom when all that he lets around him are jockeying for position to shove their nose in his butt.
