Cokie Roberts On Tebow: God…Is Clearly Not A Broncos Fan

video

Have we not reached a place free of this yet? For some reason, George Stephanopoulos decided to talk about the notoriously Christian NFL player Tim Tebow on This Week today. He asked George Will how Tebow has become such a polarizing figure in not just sports, but somehow in politics as well. Will called Tebow “an exemplary gentleman” and said he was undeserving of the attacks against him.

Cokie Roberts jumped in, and first joked that God is probably not a big fan of the Denver Broncos, then launched into a strange story about Tebow’s team.

RELATED: Charles Krauthammer Gushes Over Tim Tebow: ‘I Love This Guy! I Love This Story!’

“His team is the Saints, and the archbishop said when the Saints were named the Saints, Archbishop Hannan was asked if that was disrespectful, and he said, ‘No, just remember that most saints are martyrs.’”

Peggy Noonan quickly moved on, claiming Tebow is “the most popular sports figure in America” today, and he’s not controversial among “regular Americans.” And then, unexplicably, ABC News Senior Political Correspondent Jonathan Karl launched into a breakdown of Tebow’s stats and how they stand up against other NFL players. But perhaps Paul Krugman made the wisest decision of anyone at the table: to not talk about a football player on a show that’s supposed to be about serious political subjects.

But, Cookie, remembereth when thy team was so bad the fans of the Saints would bringeth bags to the game to weareth over their cabezas?

…on a show that devoted a segment to interviewing Comedy Central’s Steven Colbert this morning. You see the disconnect in your high-minded logic here, don’t’ you?

While watching the episode live I thought the saints comment was sort of an equal opportunity joke because she knew she’d stepped in it especially since she followed the high road comments made earlier. I don’t totally disagree with her comments but her comedic talents are lacking.

Tebow got his bible thumping butt handed to him by the the Patriots.

Progressives once again show their true colors  but if it was one of the pot smoking, dog fighting, wife beating liberal players talking about god then good old cokie wouldn’t have said a damn thing

WTF are the jerks talking about football anyways?

I know why it’s because somebody is talking about his love of god.

I don’t watch ESPN for their comments on politics.

That right an OPINION about a “show that’s supposed to
    be about SERIOUS political subjects”.

An elitist like Krugman should be awarded a freaking noble prize  for telling George that his show is about SERIOUS political subjects.

Well at least I know how “christian” we are. Losing yesterday, for a “good christian” could easily be seen as the humility required to be a soldier of the faith. Any “take” on the game yesterday that leaves “GOD” not on Tebow’s side is the MOST unchristian thing a person can do. SO, ask yourself again, HOW Christian are you and why would it take an agnostic to point out YOUR failure?

lol…..defending Christianity with a profile picture of the most extremist muslim in the world (Osama)

1 billion irony points for you!!!!!!

    Stupid.

Were they not talking about politics?

I think The Hail Demaryius shows that God does a fair amount of Tebowing.  (As well He should — Tebow seems like a really nice guy in just about every way.)

I remember a time when Republicans weren’t insane clown car rejects too… Leave my Saints alone!! LOL

Cokie Roberts hates Tebow, God, America and wants to kill all straight white Xtian males. There, tea drinkers, you happy, did I miss anything?

Wow, glad you got it all tidy and straightened out in your clean little mind.

In a couple of years, I hope I can forget his name so when I talk about football and some1 will have to remind me of that”QB” from Denver that had so much hype but never made it .

It’s not at all mysterious why Tebow has been controversial. It’s because he’s turned something generally seemly — strong religious faith — into something unseemly by trotting out his Holy Joe act every time a camera is on him. Holier-than-thou just doesn’t go down well.

In no sane universe does god have influence on the outcome of sporting contests, and in slathering every moment on the field with triple helpings of Faith! ™, Tebow has turned himself into an obnoxious parody of a devout person.

I don’t especially care what his religious faith he actually follows, but to make it so central to his appearance on TeeVee – in the context of football, fer chrissakes, is just obnoxious.

Funnily enough, he seems like a reasonable guy, so I am curious why he’s doing this.

I lived there then.  We had a place-kicking contest in the French Quarter to replace Russell Erxleben, the Sainbts’ inept kicker.

Tebow is soo obnoxious that he is the most popular athlete in sports, even more popular than those drug abusing wife beaters..imagine that!!
He would probably be in the top 5 most admirable people in the world if a poll were conducted….wouldn’t surprise me if he took first place

This holy joe even has the gal to wear it on his sleeve off the field. Why he even helped get a dozen hospitals built in the Philippines for needy people and takes countless trips to children’s hospital here in Denver to visit sick children to help brighten their day and say a prayer for them…….OMG, and he does all this without the camera rolling or a reporter tagging along or even mentioning a word about it.

Tebow walks the talk, he is the real deal, he understands there will be controversy, he understands that people will hate him because of his belief….and that makes people admire him even more!!

God probably isn’t a pro football fan at all. It violates one of his “Big 10″.
*Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

And here I thought Osama was dead…Is he like Christ and rose from the dead after 3 days?

But the Sabbath is really Saturday.  Most historians and even theologians agree it was moved, the debate is over when.

Cokie looks like an angry old alcoholic, and her opinion of a joke leaves a lot to be desired. This is what happens when you drink that much cynicism without access to the antidote.

They don’t “hate him because of his belief”, colorado.  Most people watching him are Christians too, in fact, most Americans are Christians, but his praying act looks as phony as hell.  Mainstream Christians just don’t go babbling about it at every minute of the day.

    Matthew 6:5-15:
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be SEEN BY MEN. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“Cokie” is obviously living up to her name.

    BTW……Is Cokie Rachael Maddow’s wife?
    Just askin……
