If Glenn was really in favor of lowering the cost of government, he’d be a champion of health care reform. According to the OECD, the US spent $7,200 per person for health care in 2007 (latest figures) while the countries with universal care or single payer or some combination that covers everyone spent much much less.

    United Kingdom: $2992
    Italy: $2686
    Spain: $2671
    Japan: $2581

All the OECD countries spent significantly less than the US. So, when the NYT today reports that health insurance increased 133% since 1999, Glenn could, if he was really about the people, explain that since wages only increased 36% and inflation was 28%, the people Glenn “supports” are losing ground to the insurance industry.
What would wages have done if health care cost what it does in the UK? Or France? Don’t you think they would have been higher? By a lot?

Of course, these numbers (which you can find at the Kaiser Foundation) are NEVER discussed because the corporate interests in this country don’t want anybody getting in their way. The way to your pocketbook.

Nice work, Glenn, keep letting the corporations keep looting. By all means, stop health care reform. (That’s not what I really mean, obviously)
