Pro-MAGA Pundit Accuses Scott Jennings of Lying About McConnell Call in Wild CNN Throwdown: ‘How Is He?’

Conservative CNN pundit Scott Jennings was confronted on CNN Thursday night over claims he’s spoken with Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) by fellow pro-MAGA pundit Caroline Sunshine, who bluntly told him she did not believe the conversations had ever taken place.

The wild exchange erupted on CNN’s NewsNight during an already heated discussion about the war with Iran, and as Jennings defended the Trump administration’s assessments of Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.

Sunshine, a former Trump White House aide who has consistently spoken out against the war, pushed back: “But this is important because, Scott, at the beginning of this war, you said that success was going to be defined as the regime being overthrown.”

“Never said that,” Jennings fired back. “So I just want to be clear, we don’t need to have the regime fully change in Iran for this to be a win.”

“I just want to be clear, you don’t know-” Jennings began.

“You also said it would be 4-to-6 weeks,” Sunshine shot back.

Jennings countered: “I never said that.”

“Yes you did,” she snapped. “Maybe we roll the tape later.”

Jennings argued that he had always maintained that a win in the war was preventing Iran from ever having a nuclear weapon, to which Sunshine responded that U.S. intelligence assessments “at the beginning of this war and now” that Iran “did not want one, they weren’t building one [and] they did not have one.”

“Why do you not believe the intelligence?” she added.

Jennings asked why she did not believe the administration: “Do you not believe the president’s son-in-law and his envoy?”

Sunshine responded by abruptly turning the scrutiny on Jennings and his claims that he has spoken to McConnell by phone, amid speculation about the long-absent senator’s status. He previously predicted McConnell would return to Washington when the Senate reconvenes on September 14.

“I don’t believe you had a phone call with Mitch McConnell, I’ll tell you that,” Sunshine ripped. “I don’t believe you had a 20-minute phone call with Mitch McConnell, and I don’t think a lot of people do, either.”

Jennings dismissed the accusation, telling Sunshine she sounded like “a garden-variety conspiracy theorist.”

As host Abby Phillip attempted to intervene, Sunshine mocked Jennings: “How is he? Have you talked with him lately?”

“Yeah,” Jennings replied.

The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican was reportedly hospitalized in June after suffering a fall and subsequently developing pneumonia.
