Heartwarming? Newt Gingrich Gets Donald Trump To Apprentice “Very Poor” NY School Children

video

In a press conference held in New York City today, Donald Trump revealed former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich came up with a feel-good proposal to have the reality television personality offer apprenticeships to 10 children in “very poor” innercity school districts. “I thought it was a great idea,” Trump exclaimed. “We’re going to be picking 10 young wonderful children and make them ‘apprenti.’ We’re going to have a little fun with it and it’s going to be something that’s going to prove results.”

Gingrich was asked about his controversial comments that schools should fire unionized janitors and “pay local students to take care of the school.”

“I do not suggest children until about 14 or 15 years of age do heavy, dangerous janitorial work,” Gingrich backpedaled. “On the other hand, there are a number of things done to clean buildings that are not heavy or dangerous.”

Just wondering if this has past the point of hilarity yet?

    I mean… Wow.

  • Anonymous

I like Mr. Gingrich, but my partner doesn’t.

  • Henry Wood

Ok kids, gather round, Mr. Trump has some things to teach you:

“This is how you are born into fabulous wealth and squander most of it.”

“This is how you lose money and go bankrupt running a casino.”

“This is how you make your hair into a punch line.”

  • Anonymous

How in the hell do you go bankrupt running a casino?  A business where people literally throw money at you.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Williams/100000431800956 Mark Williams

Give it a few more days!!!!! Then its going to get really funny!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Hooray for Trump turning poor children into a promo for his show!

    Are you embarrassed yet, teabaggers?

  • AMP2020

    is this real life?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Williams/100000431800956 Mark Williams

As good as it gets-this is NOT a simulation!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AOZGQUA2RXBBMT3WCUGRXXGVXQ Mike

I think the South African government did something similar to what Gingrich is proposing.

  • Anonymous

So we have liberals making fun of apprenticeship opportunities. Too funny.

Apparently liberals worked at an internship.

  • Anonymous

    ???????

    Epic Fail.

  • Anonymous

Hell of a good idea! Newt is brilliant! Put The Donald’s billions to great use.

  • Henry Wood

    Apprenticeship opportunities?!?!?!

    You are too damn funny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Williams/100000431800956 Mark Williams

“Apparently liberals worked at an internship”

Anybody want to take a stab and translate what that gibberish means?

    Anybody?

  • Anonymous

Let’s try and remember that there are going to be10 very lucky kids out there and the parents are already lining up to try and secure a spot for their children.

  • Anonymous

What did I fail on? The proposal seems like a solid one. Keep up.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

Yeah, it’s great how so many of the far right/Libertarian talking heads were born wealthy. It’s fine for them to start at the top but everyone else is lazy if they can’t pull themselves up their bootstraps. Trump is the uber car salesman of the country–annoying, dishonest and easy to see through.

  • Anonymous

Do you know how apprenticeships and internships work? Do tell.

    Epic fail Henry.

  • Anonymous

Mary Matalin seemed to love it when they talked about it. Even Donna Brazile said nice things about it.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

I’ll take a stab at it. WC means that it seems like many liberals took temporary, non-paying gigs, usually sometime during or after college, in an effort to garner experience in competitive fields full of bright, job applicants. It’s a sign that they are hard workers with bright futures, unlike GOP supporters, who are often provincial shysters, uneducated fools or heirs to wealth who didn’t have to think too hard.

Is that an accurate summation, WCinWI2?

  • Centrist79

Why isn’t Trump doing these kind of programs presently? This will just be a publicity stunt for the biggest media whore.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

Don’t pretend your original, unedited comment made sense. It didn’t, which is why you changed it.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t change the intent of my comment. I added a word that I didn’t know was not there. However, are you Rudeboy because I don’t know why you’re responding to me when I didn’t talk to you.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

You’ve got a point. That golden era of 13th century apprenticeships, when Mummy sold her boy to the guilds at the age of 9, was great. We got some really cool glass and wood carving out of it, for sure.

  • Anonymous

No. Not at all. Project away though.

I do love how you were off-base in my assessment.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Williams/100000431800956 Mark Williams

Water closet is a master at gibberish. It probably wasn’t meant to mean anything.

I’m not sure she’ll understand what you just wrote; too many big words and all.

    But thanks for your efforts.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

Oh… sorry… I didn’t realize this was one of those comment pages where you can only respond to people who have given you permission to address them.

    So sorry.

  • Henry Wood

Water Closet, I hereby declare that your clown apprenticeship is completed.  You are now a journeyman clown.

Here are your floppy shoes and your big red nose.  Congratulations.

  • Anonymous

I don’t see how 13th century has ANYTHING to do with what I stated above. If you can’t see the solid intent on this with the play on branding, well then no wonder you’re a lib.

  • Anonymous

I do enjoy how you like to call me a name, but then you like to talk to me. That’s some of the oddest online behavior ever.

  • Henry Wood

I do enjoy talking to you.  You are very amusing.  I’ll try to remember that you are offended by name-calling the next time one of your fellow clown-servatives insults me.

    Let’s be best friends forever.

  • News Of The World

Newt is making another HUGE tactical error by aligning himself closely with that circus clown Donald Dump.  This will come back to bite him.  Few (other than the far right-wing wack jobs on here) have any respect for Dump.

  • Anonymous

I think anyone should feel offended by stalking and name-calling. Sorry if you don’t agree. I wasn’t taught to act like the liberals on this site do. I was taught better than that. And I reflect this idea.

Perhaps if you matured a bit, conservatives wouldn’t be so rude to you but apparently you never grew out of grade school.

  • Henry Wood

I’m responding to comments that you have made on Mediaite, just as you have responded to comments that I have made on Mediaite.

I am saddened that you accuse me of “stalking” just because my comments display more wit and charisma than your own.

Let’s try to remember that words have meanings, okay?

  • Anonymous

Two days later trump realizes he doesn’t actually have the money to do this and declares bankruptcy. Again.

  • WiddleBabyDanielson

    How many will cry?

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

Hell, they’re getting rid of the Magna Carta… can indentured servitude and child slave labor be far behind?

  • Centrist79

Your link for Trump was to a company that he has no managing interest and about 10% ownership. Many companies offer paid and unpaid internships, nothing new here. Trump will just use 10 kids as a publicity stunt.

  • Anonymous

So then your use of the word clown-servatives was what? Do tell.

  • Anonymous

No, I linked you to one of Trump’s holdings. The fact that you assume that Trump will do this only for publicity is your own personal opinion.

And I know that most companies offer un-paid (mostly) internships. I recently just earned my B.S. and M.A. so I know all about internships. That wasn’t the point. The point was to show how you were wrong, which I did.

Either way, it’s a good publicity stunt to pull.

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

    A jowly amphibian named Newt
Whose Ideas are less than astute
Wants to fire all the cleaners,
    And replace them with teeners
    As indentured apprentices, to boot!

    wow , what talent

  • Centrist79

There are many companies that offer internships even to high school students, so Trump not doifg anything that he could have been doing anyway. Turns out you are wrong about him offering something extra.

  • Henry Wood

“Clown-servatives” is a play on words used to imply that “conservatives” are risible and ridiculous.

Well then I’m glad that you can retire the word clown-servatives since it has a negative connotation. Good to know!

  • Anonymous

I never said that there weren’t. However, most companies (I’m sure some do) do not have special stipulations for these internships based on socioeconomic status. Therefore he is.

    Keep up. :)

Let’s do something positive to help the poor so you {Donald} don’t look like such an egotistical self promoting jackass, and I {Newt} don’t look like a Putz for participating in your “debate”
    To quote Monty Python

    “You’re not fooling anybody”

  • Henry Wood

You have misunderstood me, Water Closet.  I’m not as sensitive as you are.  I welcome insults from rabid right wingers.  I wear them as a badge of honor.

Their insults bother me much less than your hand-wringing hypocrisy.

It seems inevitable that Gingrich will suggest flushing the smaller kids down the toilet with toothbrushes so they can scrub out the sewage lines.  Out of the kindness of his heart, he will offer diving masks for a nominal charge.  If any of them try to swim “upstream”  Trump will be standing “commode side” and “flush” them back to work as he screams, “Yer’ fired!”   Proudly, reality television will record it all.  Sewage and reality have never enjoyed such parallels.

“Life is unreal”–everyone who ever smoked a doob or read this storey.

Even with our existing child labor laws thousands of cases of permanent disability and over 70 deaths a year are attributed to child labor in the US.  These laws are very loosely enforced now.  Imagine, if we did as Mr Gingrich suggested and actually rolled back child labor laws.  How many deaths a year are acceptable?

Once again, I’m glad I wasn’t brought up like you.

    That is all.

  • Rex derWunderGott

    No, not a simulation – it’s a RE-ENACTMENT!

Rrrthoritarians LUV re-enactments. Pointy hats, breeched-pants, waistcoats & knee-length tails while carting about muskets & tea bags, grey flatcaps & muttonshops while sporting semi-automatics made up to look like flintlocks.

This Newt “Full of …. IDEAS!” Man “charity apprenti” idea-let is just as much of a re-enactment: of Bleak House & Mister Bumble on your Tee-Vee – of Dickens!

  • Rex derWunderGott

Note the favorite Rrrthoritarian “internship” is always FREE.

Newt & La Donald both just LUV free indentured labor – & long for the bygone days of contracts of indenture in florid handwriting on parchment, where the indentured sign with an “X” on the dotted line.

Anti-Celebrity Apprentice: Poor Inner City Kids Competing For Free – first each team has to scrounge stuff to bake a loaf of bread, then the winning team competes to see which one of them actually gets to eat a slice. Riveting reality TV, that.

The embarrassment I got from Michelle Obama’s political crusades using poor and obese children is enough to last me a lifetime, so Trump’s initiative wont bother me as a matter of fact. Maybe Trump’s will actually make more sense than Michelle’s huge embarrassment, because she actually does still order 1,700-calorie meals(http://wapo.st/nJZOjo) in the most hypocritical of manners, and political expediency using children.

What an embarrassment by a US First Lady!

  • Anonymous

Oh puh-leeze, the leading voices of the Left aren’t calling Michele Obama a clown, a charlatan or a side-show like your side is calling Cain and trump.
They are embarrassed, why aren’t you?

Because teabaggers have no shame, that’s why.

  • Anonymous

Like most good conservatives, you should support the right of children to be obese.  Obese janitors.

Give your kid some Coke and potato chips.  That’s freedom!  The gummint should keep its hands off my fat kid.

  • Anonymous

    Apprentice janitors?

I would rather be an apprentice investment banker, thank you.  Trump hiring any of those?

  • Anonymous

They could teach these poor children how to make shoes so they could replace the poor Indonesian children who make them now, thereby saving tons of money in transportation costs for Nike.

I bet the stock price would go up and Phil Knight would be a gazillionaire instead of a simple billionaire.
