This is comforting news for the potential morphology of the Occupy movement: that consistently wrong headed types like SP here and Loynent Stossel in the post itself come out against it.

There are not just hundreds but thousands of incidents in the period since Europe emerged from the previous medieval period of feudalism in which populist protests or uprisings have taken place; uprisings get destroyed, but the historical pattern is that when the ruling class overreacts against populist protests those protests just grow and come back stronger at some later time; in contrast, when governance systems simply tolerate & adapt to such protests, then get subsumed into the prevailing culture. On that pattern, the overreaction of local governments to the Occupy movement protests are likely – not guaranteed by any means, but LIKELY – to end up finding themselves to have been helped, and helped most of all, by the elitist reactions of Bloomberg in NYC, and by the screwed up local divided governance reactions in Oakland and Portland in particular. Anyway, it’s not obvious and anyone who purports to be able to forecast the future here is full of it and just guessing.

But here is some not-guessing: what the Occupy movements have succeeded in doing is in connecting hundreds of thousands to millions of mostly young adults to each other locally, and regionally and nationally, that amounts to capital resources, the sort of thing the new social media sites are forever going after, but in a far more focused and serious way. Those young adults will go home, some very few to jobs (most were and are unemployed), to school (a larger group, but government support for schooling is lower than it has been for decades) and otherwise into their communities, with time on their hands to proselytize and further organize, again locally, regionally and nationally. I really do not think the GOP has a sound reason to fear Occupy will take Obama or any Ds to relection or election in November 2012, because that misses the point about Occupy, that it’s based on a consensus belief that the SYSTEM has failed (not ‘is failing’ – ‘has failed’), so what I would expect is a movement towards organic groups which then LATER show up interested in exerting muscle in the traditional party systems. The TPers (Birchers and Birthers) already did that, to the limited degree they have done, with the GOP, and all they’ve done is weaken the GOP in certain ways, particularly in the presidential setting, so it’s almost guaranteed the Occupiers, once they moult, will go after the generally more vulnerable and populist D party. That will likely – now I’m into guessing about timing – start showing up in 2016, and the question will be how it grows and develops alongside the coming Hispanic emergence – whether the two grow organically alongside each other and in some complementary way, or in effective opposition, it’s too unknown to eve fix odds, even based on the history of social movements with population dynamics.

What we DO know is that inevitably and increasingly, the elites will be isolated within neggreen authoritarians and reflexive religious extremists, and so will die out as those groups change and their leaders die out. The banks are going to die because the governments can no longer bail them out – ironic, given the bankster-government partnership of the last 150 years. The merchant pirates are going to go under attack, and the Kochies know this, so that will be incredibly bloody and costly in terms of lives, mostly at first in those pressuring them, but in the end the Kochies will go down.

But the real action is going to take place among whatever the Occupiers turn into (militarism is not out of question, but in the end, as the SDS types learned, it’s futile, and the emergent Hispanic majority. The latter is a very interesting group, not comparable to the Mexican and South American compliant hordes, because their forefathers moved here with expectations and ambitions, but they are Catholic and have some very conservative tendencies, and how those affect the Hispanic vote as it grows to dominance is not predictable. 

You think things are messy now – we’re just a bit into the second decade of the messiest century in the history of the species. This is going to be wild in ways none of us can anticipate.

Every single item on that list – drawn from a winger summary in the wingosphere for just this sort of purpose – is somewhere between a lot more nuanced than the lister suggests and an outright authoritarian meme lie. It’s there not to PROMOTE discussion but to shout it down, to drown it out. It ought to be flagged for removal.

Stossel, who’s usually always right, is wrong here. The protesters HAVE been violent and they’re deliberately trying to cover it up. Nobody doubts that they have the right to speak, but they do not have the right to be violent and they also do not have the right to infringe on the liberty of others.

It helps to read what you copy before you paste it.  A lot of that stuff isn’t even close to violence.  

Heres an idea. Go to a public urban park with a note pad. Jot down the time and place of every drug deal and hooker hire you see. Now go to an occupy protest with the same note pad and keep track of every crime you witness. I see more drug deals in one hour in any urban park then you have crimes in that entire list.

The only difference is that the establishment is scared of the occupy movement, they’re not scared of a bunch of junkies. So they send the police in to protect the plutocracy.

It is really bad where i live in Seattle. There is a video made this week of 0ne of the OWS people having a bowel movement on the side walk, he just walks away.Poor guy, how can he be expected to have any social skills or class.The big bad corporations took those away from him. My sister has to drop off her kids at a daycare that is next  to one of the OWS camps, the air is filled with the smell of POT, there is debris everywhere and you have to be careful or you will step on  one of many condoms or IV drug needles that litters the ground. The OWS protestors block roads and have altercations with the police.
There is a interesting back lash to OWS, there are business owners in Seattle who are talking about closing their businesses or moving to another area.  My sister is closing her 2 businesses. She states it is not worth the hastle and she is not going to give her money, that she has worked her whole life to make, to a bunch of people who have no sense of accountability.
We did a poll yesterday at work, who has the best class of people, Republicans or democrats? The Republicans won. The Tea Party was able to have their voice heard without doing drugs, getting arrested, having bowel movements on the side walk or a police car. There were no rapes, no crime, they cleaned up after themselves, thye didn’t have to stand around beating on drums, they had a mission statement that was understood and they were productive people who actually make a contribution to society. OWS wants everyone to Provide for them and they see themselves as victims.

FOX’s John Stossel is talking about jobs this week. He’s invited CEO’s to hold up the Republican BS line on job creators and regulation. Of course there wasn’t a manufacturer in the bunch. All the CEO’s were Chamber of Commerce darlings (*or connected friends & cronies of the Bush Crime Family) Every CEO exploits low wage workers to sell questionable products they buy from Asians.
NOTE: (lead based toys, poisoned pet food, toxic toothpaste, toxic sheetrock, and low grade metal products such as screws, tools, bolts. That’s why so many crnes and bridges have been collapsing. Not to mention the patented properties in most of their products and technologies were stolen)
CEO’s who took advantage of all the Republican Corporate Socialist Party subsidies, deregulation, expatriate clauses, tax breaks to f*** over the American worker.
The 90’s Gingrich/Delay/Gramm Republican controlled Congress even insured venture capital of Industry that moved to Communist China. They passed the baton to Bush/Cheney who made regulation meaningless because they filled the regulatory agencies with industry lobbyists.  (right SEC & environmental protection?)    
No educated skilled labor WHY? Conservatives insist a good education is only for those who can afford it. I found a Chinese propaganda mill that can reproduce Republican sponsored talking points at a fraction of the cost that FOX News and AM Radio Free Conservative charges. Also we found 10 Vietnamese that resemble John Stossel, had a whiny, condescending voice and will work for $4.25 a week. The US government will provide the tax dollars needed for rich guys to build a FOX news studio next to the toxic waste dump in Beijing and send the real John Stossel packing… He can be a greeter at WalMart which is better than his present position in Rupert Murdoch’s Ho stable… WHO NEEDS ‘EM!
