Abdul El-Sayed’s Sister Draws Renewed Scrutiny for Allegedly Assaulting Cop at Anti-ICE Rally
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D) is having to answer for his half-sister after Fox News Digital reported on Friday she was arrested for spitting on an Illinois state trooper at a rally outside an ICE facility last year.
Eman Abdelhadi — identified by Fox as a “far-left professor” at the University of Chicago — teaches courses on comparative human development. In her spare time, she evidently likes to participate in anti-ICE protests, including the one last October where she was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a government employee and two counts of resisting/obstructing peace.
Abdelhadi accused ICE of “terrorizing our communities” on a podcast a day before she was arrested, the outlet reported.
Her disdain for immigration enforcement lines up with her brother’s thinking, with the Democratic candidate having repeatedly called for abolishing ICE. But El-Sayed’s campaign tried to put some distance between him and his half-sis when reached by Fox News.
“Abdul loves his sister and also disagrees with her on a number of political positions and the rhetoric she’s chosen to use, including on foreign policy,” campaign spokesperson Sophie Pollok told the outlet. “But Abdul is the one on the ballot and his record of public service and his platform is what matters to voters here in Michigan. His campaign has always been about his love for America and Michigan.”
Beyond her disdain for ICE, Abdelhadi has a number of hard-left beliefs. She complained about “white people” being “fearful” and not facing the same scrutiny as Muslims at the airport, according to old posts, and she complained about her “evil” university being a “colonial landlord.” She also attended a 2025 socialist conference which focused on “abolition, Marxism, decolonization, and working-class history,” Fox News reported.
President Donald Trump has bashed El-Sayed since he beat Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) in the Democratic primary earlier this month, and the president — without naming El-Sayed in particular — vented last week about Dems getting “jihadists” elected.
