Jon Stewart On Anchor Babies, The 14th Amendment, And Over-The-Top TV Pundits

If you’ve been reading Mediaite over the last week, you are likely familiar with the latest wedge issue for the upcoming midterm elections: the proposed repeal of the 14th amendment, which provides citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. Republican Senators Jon Kyl and Lindsey Graham have lead the political charge on this seemingly absurd topic, which has drawn criticisms from both Lou Dobbs and Rachel Maddow. Sound confusing? Allow me to introduce you to Jon Stewart…take it away Jon!

I particularly enjoyed the female attorney representing or speaking on behalf of the xenophobes who began her comments with, “I know it’s hard to be tough on babies, but ….” Good smack-down on this deplorable beast!

    FROM ITS CONCEPTION,
    THROUGH YOUR RECEPTION,
    FOX IS PURE DECEPTION.

This is the Republican strategy of throwing shit against the wall and see what sticks and it’s only purpose is to win votes in a non presidential election in November. That a priority in this country is to prevent little Mexican babies from becoming American citizens so they don’t become Democrat voters that keep white conservatives from political office is now the new low for the rightwing in this country.

Strange. Mexico assumes that a child of Mexican parents, born anywhere on earth, is Mexican. I agree.

Of course that 14th amendment also has that inconvenient clause “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” which applies to citizens of other countries in the US legally or illegally. You don’t have to change the constitution, just enforce it.

When you get into Al Qaeda planting children into sleeper cell terrorists, yea that is crazy.
But it would be crazy to ignore the fact that there are illegal immigrants that get pregnant while theyre here to help aid them in becoming legal. Just like how some of them get married just to get their citizenship. Of course not all illegals have this mentality, but that doesnt mean we have to ignore the percentage that does.

Repealing the 14th amendment just to make a statement is just wrong, but something has to be done to solve the problem.
