Jon Stewart On GOP Warnings Of 2nd Obama Term: ‘The First Term Was Laying The Trap?’

video

As the November election approaches, Republicans are beating the sound of a familiar drum from 2008 on President Obama– that he is a radical, bent on destroying the Catholic Church and Second Amendment, out to “fundamentally transform” America. On tonight’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart took a look at how well the predictions from 2008 have fared, and how absurd some of today’s predictions are in that context.

RELATED: Jon Stewart Explains Ultrasound Law To GOP: ‘A TSA Pat-Down In Your Vagina’

He began with some clips from 2008, notably Rep. Steve King asserting that “radical Islamists will be dancing in the streets” if President Obama were elected. “Talk about hitting the nail, if you replace ‘dancing’ with ‘dodging unmanned missiles raining hellfire from the sky,’” Stewart deadpanned.

By now, he noted, “we’ve pretty much gotten first term,” and “conservatives got a little kicked in the crystal balls.” So what is on the menu for 2012? He noted Newt Gingrich stating President Obama was desirous of a “war on Catholicism;” an NRA executive expecting the Second Amendment to be obliterated the first day after inauguration. “If Obama hasn’t been able to pull any of that shit off during the first term of his presidency, what is he waiting for?” Stewart asked. “The whole first term is just laying the trap,” he mused, perhaps “all he has done in his first term is just a canard so they he can get a second term?”

Today’s Republicans: the most intellectually dishonest group of hysterics, whiners and paranoids in American political history

  • Anonymous

In the this modern age I am consistently baffled by a politicians naiveness in forgetting that technology like youtube and recording devices exist, aka it sometimes might be helpful to look back on what you said, you know, so you don’t look disingenuous

Second, is it possible to have talking points that make sense?

Does any rationale and reasonable person who follows politics actually believe Newt of all people when he says the president is going to destroy the catholic church, just saying even reasonable republicans might put their hand on their face and wonder whats going on with their beloved party

After 4 years of trying to work across the aisle, what did Obama get but endless NO’S, and “IT’S OUR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY” responses from the REPUGS.In a second term,if I were Obama my response to ANYTHING the Repugs voiced would be a solid NO,they’ve forfeited their voice in politics with their asinine behavior the past 3 years. America is seeing front and center, what a cesspool of filth supports this clown car of mental midgets in this Primary.

That’s the most hysterical joke I’ve seen written today! Obama has never tried to compromise- give Clinton a few drinks and maybe he’ll tell you the truth of Obama’s presidency and his ambitions.

If you’re a coal miner, I hope you like the way that coal fired electrical plants are having to shut down because of Obama’s EPA regulations.

Obama said that he wanted the cost of electricity to go up and he’s sure getting what he wanted.

One of the main things the Internet has done, I think, is to show how irrational and unreasonable people are. Obama has moved more to the center than he promised in his campaign, and yet some of the GOPers on this site really believe that he’s gone Stalin on America. The power of propaganda on people who don’t ever question what they hear is amazing.

The right-wing media has also mastered the strategy of aggressively accusing their political opponents of the very thing the GOP is also doing. The Democrats use similar strategies at times, I know, but they are not as good at propaganda.

A bunch of Republican pussies running for the presidency. How exciting.

  • Anonymous

You just exemplified what BMF was pointing out. You think it should be the GOP way or the highway, and so, as an extremist, you don’t see that Obama has compromised on a great deal already. In fact, if you ask most Democrats, he has been too willing to compromise with the Republicans.

Here’s a short list that I’m sure others can add to.

    1. Compromised on healthcare bill (no public option)
    2. Compromised on extending Bush tax cuts
    3. Compromised on contraception issue (Catholic-run businesses don’t have to pay)
    4. Compromised on debt ceiling (offered more cuts than Republicans but asked Republicans to meet him by minimally raising taxes on the wealthiest. Reps said no)
    5. Compromised on the stimulus package, a third of which was tax cuts the Right wanted

Just Google “Obama compromise” and you will see plenty of people would think your post is the “most hysterical joke” they’ve seen today.

The Politics of Destruction by Neil Murphy
Things are not as they seem America. Our enemies are among us, and its time to open your eyes or face destruction. The deocratic
party has been coopted by Communists and are now actively working to destroy this country on every level. Paranoid? I will report, you
decide. Lets begin with the jobs czar and the GM bailout. Mr Emelt is the CEO of General Electric, the single biggest recipient of federal economic stimulus dollars. On his way to posting
an 18 Billion dollar profit at our expense not only has he outsourced thousands of jobs to China but he has manage to avoid paying one
dollar in corporate tax. The recent deal with GM is even stinkier. Due to federal subsidies on green energy his company now makes a profit
on every Volt they buy. Thats not a misprint, generally companies make money selling products not nuying them. General Electric could buy
every single Volt produced and make money on every one. Expect Volt production to increase and another good year for both companies.
Outsourcing jobs to China is not evil in principal, there are usually sound financial reasons for companies to do this, but with an 18
billion dollar profit and zero income taxes, I have to call it like I see it. Mr Geithner, Treasury secretary is another good example. The treasury is empty and we have already been downgraged and he still
cant come up with one single way to improve (not fix, just improve) the fiscal situation. His ten year budget is a straight 8% baseline
growth growth of the federal government, even when questioned by Paul Ryan he cant even come up with a pretend answer.Im not a budget
expert so lets just move on to homeland security. Janet Napolitano tells us the border is as secure as it has ever been, and deportations are up. This is true deportations are up,
but not because the Mexico border is secure, its due to draconian tactics by Immigration Control on the Northern border. In the Pacific
Northwest immigration control is an oppressive presence with agents stopping whole buses to check the ID of anyone looking hispanic. I
approve of a secure Northern border, however its hard too argue that there is not a problem on the Southern border, the death toll is just
too high. The Justice and  President Obama (I am trying not to even mention the president, but thats only 1 time so far) resist a law
passed in Arizona even allowing police to check the immigration status of people who are ARRESTED. Moving along, it seems natural to look
at the Justice Department and attorney general Holder. In 2009, the buraeu of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms received federal economic stimulus money used to initiate operation Fast and
Furious. Fast and Furious, if you dont know, was a program whereby thousands of guns, mostly assault rifles, were deliberately sold to
straw buyers and allowed to cross the border into Mexico and into the hands of cartel members. These are the admitted facts, and that would
seem fishy enough. After Agent Brian Terry was killed by one of these weapons the operation was exposed publicyand to this day not only Mr
Holder denies knowing anything about the operation. There is of course, mountains of evidence that not only suggest otherwise, but make a
very strong case that he has perjured himself before congress. Its been over a year since Agent Terry (rest in peace) has been killed, and
Mr Holder has yet to hold anyone in the chain of command accountable. His position seems to be, I didn’t approve the operations but I do
approve of it and there is nothing you can do about it Mr Issa. (congressman Issa is the chairman of the judiciary commitee attempting to
investigate operation fast and furious.) Lets move on to the Department of Energy and Secretary Steven Chu. Mr Chu personally helped to push through a loan guarantee for
solar energy giant Solyndra which, of course went bankrupt. The more this investigation progresses the clearer it is that Chu knew the
company was going bankrupt. Documents found in a typical friday afternoon document dump also reveal that Mr Chu spread federal money around
to various companies to BUY the Solyndra porduct, at the same time Solyndra is recieving massive federal money to sell the product. Was
this an attempt to keep Solyndra alive? Solyndra lost money on every unit sold and Mr Chu knew it. I report, you decide. many more examples
from the Stimulus bill are out there but there isnt a big enough internet in the world to list them all. Find out for yourself. Its on foreign policy that this administration is the most dangerous, Im forced to call out the President himself on this. He
claims to support Israel and yet the evidence suggests otherwise. Iran is within months of being able to make a nuclear bomb and the
presidents only strategy seems to be stall, stall, stall. He supports the Egyptian government, the Brazilian government, the Chinese
government and the Pakistan. Look around people, I can’t do it all. Up and down the line if you are an enemy of our country you can count
on the President Obamas support. Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius says “parents dont always know whats best for the child”, White House spokesman Valerie
Jarrett says “unemplyment benefits stimulate the economy”. Obamacare. Media Matters. My hard drive isn’t big enough. Whos side are these
people on? What are they trying to do? As Americans it is your duty to look beyond Obamas words. What if he is lying? Ask yourself, if you
were in his position and wanted to destroy America, how would you do it? Can we afford to trust this man and these people? Listen  to Glenn Beck, he seems paranoid but nothing he says can be disproven. What if he IS right? Pray with me. “Please god, let America see through this bullsht before its too late, take care of Agent Terry and if I die before
November DONT LET ME VOTE FOR OBAMA.

It must’ve taken you a lot of research and dedication to compile so much b.s. in a single post. Congratulations, my friend. You’ve just graduated Beck University summa cum laude.

It’s because liberals in the media have never been  as organized or consistent as republicans.  Fox News systematically hammers home the same talking points from show to show.  The closest thing the left has to that is maybe MSNBC, but it doesn’t hold nearly the sway amongst democrats that Fox News does among Republicans (even liberals don’t watch MSNBC) and it isn’t nearly as consistent.

Plus, on the most base level I think people really like it when people make Obama out to be an absurd villain (reality be damned) just because they thrive on the drama.  It’s reality TV every night on Fox News and the conservatives have cast Obama as Omarosa. Only the stakes are much higher. Obama isn’t just a president (that’s not exciting enough television) he’s a villain who wants to destroy America and everything you value. What could be more exciting than that?

The economic Policies of Barack Obama and how he saved gmby Neil Murphy
When Barack Obama took office in 2009, one of the first thing he had to deal with was the imminent bankruptcy of the big 3 automakers. The economy was dragging and unemployment was rising and President Obama acted to save auto industry in Detroit. All three companies are alive and well today. All  three companies are alive and well today, particularly GM who posted record profits in 2011. The auto bailout is touted to this day as a success with all credit generally given to Barack Obama, but underneath the surface this deal doesn’t look very good at all. Barack Obama campaigned in 2008 and spent the better part of 2009 passing the Affordable Health Care Act. Known by its oppenents as Obamacare its purpose was to provide affordable health care for all Americans includint the uninsured and the uninsurable. The Economic Recovery act was also passed in 2009, a plan designed to spur job growth stimulate the economy. All three bills are frequently lauded as a success by President Obama and his supporters, but upon close inspection all  is not as it appears to be. Cut to 2012, unemployment is still high, the economy is still sluggish at best, and no one has actually received and affordable health care. Each of these bills can be argued on a point by point basis as anything from resounding successes to abject failures. My view is that these bills are 3 of the worst laws in the history of the United States and heres why. Beginning with the auto bailout. Without getting into too much detail, a large amount of caash was infused into these companies in order to keep them operating. GM received 51 billion in federal money in exchange for partial ownership of GM. Subsidies were passed for the now famous chevy Volt a next generation green car. Tax credits were handed out some as part of the economic recovery act(stimulus). As a result of this GM paid no income taxes in 2011 on their way to posting the record profits mentioned. As part of the stimulus bill money was spent on grants, loan guarantees and tax credits for green energy programs including solar, wind, and electric cars. General Electric was a main beneficiary of this money recieving billions of dollars for many projects, depending on your source the total amount approaches 100 billion dollars. Because of the green energy tax credits and subsidies for large wind and solar projects, GE posted an 18billion dollar profit. More subsidies were passed in 2012 including a 10,000 dollar tax credit on each Volt sold. What does that have to do with GE, I will show you, but first. Cut to the Soviet Union, the largest communist empire the world has ever seen with millions of workers constructing widgets full time. What is a widget you ask? Its nothing, a product no one wants or need but is produced to keep the people working, back to 2012 and the widget of the 21st century. The Chevy Volt. An insidious situation has been set up under the guise of economic recovery and creating jobs. Between GM and GE a profit of over 25 billion dollars was posted in 2012 and no income tax was paid by either company. Recently a new deal was announced, wherby GE agreed to buy a fleet of Volts from GM thus completing the trinity. Under these rules GM is being paid in tax dollars to produce Volts that GE, also using tax dollars buys. With the newest subsidy in place both of these companies, 2 of the largest corporations in the world make a profit on every single one. How can you make a profit buying a car you ask? Well you use other peoples money, and thus our widget. How can this be considered good economic policy? Well its not its very bad economic policy, under these rules GE can buy as many widgets as they possibly can as fast as GM can make them and recieve an unlimited amount of tax dollars without ever giving anything back. Just buy them and park them on a lot somewhere. Is this deliberate or is President Obama incompetant? My opinion is deliberate. On to Obamacare a hugely expensive entitlement program reviled by some, loved by others. The bill is reviled on the right as everything from unconstitutional, to wasteful beauracracy, to free handouts. It is all of these things. Obama is not incompetant he knows exactly what hes doing. These policies are designed to suck the life from our economy and they are doing there job well. If you can accept the terrifying premise that Obama wants the economy to crash everything makes peerfect sense. Both green energy and obamacare are designed as a way to destroy money. An infinite amount of tax dollars will be poured into all 3 programs.  America needs to wake up and see. An infinite cycle of taxpayer dollars is now setup between GM and GE, with nothing of value being created. Obamacare is going to suck money from every american most if not all will go to beauracracies and give aways, its is a bottomless hole where money goes to die whit nothing of value ever created, unless you count federal employees as a product. The Stimulus bill was over 700 billion dollars and was also designed to destroy money. We have all heard of Solyndra and the bad loan, what not everyone realizes is that Solyndra knew it was going bankrupt at the time of the loan and so did the department of energy. Another thing not everyone realizes is that grants were given out to other, healthy, companies to buy Solar Panels from Solyndra who took a loss on every one sold until the money ran out and they went bankrupt. Leaving the taxpayer at the end of a long list of creditors and likely to recover nothing. By my estimate we have now spentwell over a trillion dollars on suicidal programs designed to harm our financial well being.  It is impossible for me to believe that POTUS, with all the infromation available to him could possibly imagine that any of this would work. My opinion is that his green energy programs and healthcare packages are a front for a communist/socialist agenda and its terrifying. Wake up Comrades. The widget factories are in full production and we need to act now or face a crash like none we have ever seen before.

I’ve searched for these “reasonable Republicans” you mention. However, despite my optimism that they were there, I have found almost none.

They are not just silent, they have changed too. Despite their supposed nature, they are just following the  crowd. They don’t want to disturb the delicate ether of conservatism, lest they break the spell, end their conspiracy-disguised-as-a-democratic-party, and give it all up.

There are no reasonable Republicans to speak of. There are only RINOs and independents. The others are a loss.

Makes sense, Obama loosened up laws on gun regulations just to take them away. He gave in on the debt ceiling debate just so he could quadruple the debt the 2nd half, he killed bin Laden just to give Iran nukes. It’s all a setup, everything Obama did his first term he’s reverse in his 2nd term. Wait a second, doesn’t that mean austerity and lifting the mandates? Looks like Republicans should vote for Obama as well.

As if the Teapublicans would ever consider telling the truth about Obama! Nope, just silly lies.

GE is buying Chevy Volts for their corporate vehicles because IT MAKES BUSINESS SENSE!. The initial cost is higher, even with the Bush tax rebate (yes, it was G W Bush that signed the bill that created that plug-in vehicle tax break!), but the operating costs are much lower. The lower operating costs will more than make up for the higher up-front costs, especially now that gas is once again over $4 a gallon and could reach $5 a gallon this year.

Also, GE makes electrical generating equipment, it makes sense for them to promote plug-in cars like the Volt.

GE employees aren’t “forced” to use the company cars, they’re really great cars to drive so the employees want to drive them!

To begin with, the Volt project started in 2006, with the first concept prototype shown in January 2007. That was before Obama became President. The “auto bailout” bill was supported by Republicans and signed by President Bush Jr. in December lf 2008, just before he left office, and he left it to his successor to carry out the terms of that law. Obama has carried it out quite well, as Chrysler was successfully acquired by Fiat at a profit to the US Government, and GM is getting record profits, again benefitting the US Government. Instead of a loss, it looks like that “bailout” will end up adding money to the Treasury – how could that possibly be a bad thing?

The “tax subsidy” for plug-in vehicles was also from a law supported by Republicans and signed by President Bush Jr., in order to promote improved fuel economy and reduce oil consumption. It was not something President Obama did. While President Obama did suggest increasing that subsidy from $7,500 to $10,000 in his 2012 budget proposal, that budget hasn’t been passed by the Republican controlled House of Representatives, thus it is NOT in effect, and it is disingenuous to pretend it is.

If McCain had won the Presidency in 2008, the auto company bailout would still have taken place, the “Government Motors” Chevy Volt would still have started sales in 2010, the $7,500 tax rebate would still apply to the Volt – and Fox News would be praising the Chevy Volt as a marvelous example of American Automotive Leadership!

“Obamacare” is not “socialized medicine”, all the hospitals, doctors, nurses, clinics, pharmacies, and insurance companies remain with their current ownership. That law merely changes the regulations on health insurance, insuring that patients won’t be abruptly denied coverage they need, or denied coverage for “pre-existing conditions”, or have their coverage “capped” and denied because their treatment turned out to be expensive. Strange thing is, when asked about the individual parts of the program, almost all people support all of the parts, yet many somehow got all frightened and opposed to this scary “Obamacare” that they know nothing about…

  • Gregory Williams

When did National Public Radio say Obama was going to take away our guns? Or did you mean to post NRA? Gun manufacturers and Gun retail stores love President Obama and even say so, heck I am betting they set up an elect Obama Super PAC and refuse to give to republicans just to ensure their economic self interest needs for four more years, heck they might fund a democratic majority in both the House and Senate campaign to push the sales up even more.

” The recent deal with GM is even stinkier. Due to federal subsidies on green energy his company now makes a profit on every Volt they buy. Thats not a misprint, ”
No, it’s just a ridiculous lie. Each Volt costs over $40,000, the “plug-in vehicle” tax rebate is just $7,500 – and it is a tax rebate, not a subsidy. That still leaves at least $32,500 that GM must pay for each Volt. Now, it still makes economic sense for GE, as they need corporate cars (most companies that size do) and the Volt has much lower operating costs – the “fuel cost” of driving electric is just 2 to 3 cents per mile, compared to gasoline costs of 10 to 30 cents per mile. Of course, since GE makes electrical generating equipment of all types, it makes sense for them to promote plug-in vehicles.

As for “Operation Fast and Furious”, that was indeed a major SNAFU. Mistakes and blunders happen, but Obama was no more personally involved in that than he was involved in the SEAL operation that killed Bin Ladin. Hey, you win some, you lose some.

As for Glen Beck, his paranoid notions have been disproven several times, but those listening only to the Newscorp right-wing echo chamber would never hear those rebuttals. If by any chance they might have overheard a rebuttal to Beck, they’d have dismissed it as commie/socialist/neworldorder propergander.

The Politics of Destruction by Neil Murphy
Things are not as they seem America. Our enemies are among us, and its time to open your eyes or face destruction. The democratic party has been coopted by Communists and are now actively working to destroy this country on every level. Paranoid? I will report, you decide. Lets begin with the jobs czar and the GM bailout. Mr Emelt is the CEO of General Electric, the single biggest recipient of federal economic stimulus dollars. On his way to posting an 18 Billion dollar profit at our expense not only has he outsourced thousands of jobs to China but he has manage to avoid paying one dollar in corporate tax. The recent deal with GM is even stinkier. Due to federal subsidies on green energy his company now makes a profit on every Volt they buy. Thats not a misprint, generally companies make money selling products not nuying them. General Electric could buy every single Volt produced and make money on every one. Expect Volt production to increase and another good year for both companies. Outsourcing jobs to China is not evil in principal, there are usually sound financial reasons for companies to do this, but with an 18 billion dollar profit and zero income taxes, I have to call it like I see it. Mr Geithner, Treasury secretary is another good example. The treasury is empty and we have already been downgraged and he still cant come up with one single way to improve (not fix, just improve) the fiscal situation. His ten year budget is a straight 8% baseline growth growth of the federal government, even when questioned by Paul Ryan he cant even come up with a pretend answer.Im not a budget expert so lets just move on to homeland security. Janet Napolitano tells us the border is as secure as it has ever been, and deportations are up. This is true deportations are up, but not because the Mexico border is secure, its due to draconian tactics by Immigration Control on the Northern border. In the Pacific Northwest immigration control is an oppressive presence with agents stopping whole buses to check the ID of anyone looking hispanic. I approve of a secure Northern border, however its hard too argue that there is not a problem on the Southern border, the death toll is just too high. The Justice and  President Obama (I am trying not to even mention the president, but thats only 1 time so far) resist a law passed in Arizona even allowing police to check the immigration status of people who are ARRESTED. Moving along, it seems natural to look at the Justice Department and attorney general Holder. In 2009, the buraeu of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms received federal economic stimulus money used to initiate operation Fast and Furious. Fast and Furious, if you dont know, was a program whereby thousands of guns, mostly assault rifles, were deliberately sold to straw buyers and allowed to cross the border into Mexico and into the hands of cartel members. These are the admitted facts, and that would seem fishy enough. After Agent Brian Terry was killed by one of these weapons the operation was exposed publicyand to this day not only Mr Holder denies knowing anything about the operation. There is of course, mountains of evidence that not only suggest otherwise, but make a very strong case that he has perjured himself before congress. Its been over a year since Agent Terry (rest in peace) has been killed, and Mr Holder has yet to hold anyone in the chain of command accountable. His position seems to be, I didn’t approve the operations but I do approve of it and there is nothing you can do about it Mr Issa. (congressman Issa is the chairman of the judiciary commitee attempting to investigate operation fast and furious.) Lets move on to the Department of Energy and Secretary Steven Chu. Mr Chu personally helped to push through a loan guarantee for solar energy giant Solyndra which, of course went bankrupt. The more this investigation progresses the clearer it is that Chu knew the company was going bankrupt. Documents found in a typical friday afternoon document dump also reveal that Mr Chu spread federal money around to various companies to BUY the Solyndra porduct, at the same time Solyndra is recieving massive federal money to sell the product. Was this an attempt to keep Solyndra alive? Solyndra lost money on every unit sold and Mr Chu knew it. I report, you decide. many more examples from the Stimulus bill are out there but there isnt a big enough internet in the world to list them all. Find out for yourself. Its on foreign policy that this administration is the most dangerous, Im forced to call out the President himself on this. He claims to support Israel and yet the evidence suggests otherwise. Iran is within months of being able to make a nuclear bomb and the presidents only strategy seems to be stall, stall, stall. He supports the Egyptian government, the Venezuelan government, the Chinese government and the Pakistan. Look around people, I can’t do it all. Up and down the line if you are an enemy of our country you can count on the President Obamas support. Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius says “parents dont always know whats best for the child”, White House spokesman Valerie Jarrett says “unemplyment benefits stimulate the economy”. Obamacare. Media Matters. My hard drive isn’t big enough. Whos side are these people on? What are they trying to do? As Americans it is your duty to look beyond Obamas words. What if he is lying? Ask yourself, if you were in his position and wanted to destroy America, how would you do it? Can we afford to trust this man and these people? Listen  to Glenn Beck, he seems paranoid but nothing he says can be disproven. What if he IS right? Pray with me. “Please god, let America see through this bullsht before its too late, take care of Agent Terry and if I die before November DONT LET ME VOTE FOR OBAMA.

I will explain it real slow. GM and GE now have a nice cozy relationship where GE can make a profit(tax free) by BUYING volts. GM makes money elling Volts. Both companies pay zero taxes and recieve massive amounts of tax dollars almost 100 billion so far. The first order of 12000 was just placed and I have no doubt the factories will be rolling full speed, and why not? Everyone makes money. Just Make a volt, drive it to ge and park it.

And yes, everyone thinks healthcare is greaat, but when you make stuff free, well…

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

That comment is absurd on it’s face.
There is ample evidence, on a daily basis, of the mainstream media promoting Democratic interests by downplaying negative reports against Dems, with little judgmental fervor; and doing precisely the opposite with Republicans.

Here’s a simple exercise, just ask yourself how the media would have covered a given story if it were Bush instead of Obama.

You can start with gas prices – Google how the Media Matters Mainstreams covered Bush’s gas price rise compared to how they’ve covered Obama’s!
    We have a Bingo.

  • Gregory Williams

Neither one of those companies are NOT FOR PROFITS and they do pay taxes just not enough, so maybe you should be calling on Republicans to tax them and all corporations at the very least a 28%rate and because they are electric you hate them? That’s strange as the more electric cars on the road the lower the price of gas should become as a matter of supply and demand dynamics, if they do not take continuing advantage of a free for all no rules or regulation market.

And you are blending up your arguments diluting any clarity they had. Try being some what lucid and not so rabid.

Just one last thing, if GE is buying cars and mothballing them (parking them not to be driven is what you imply) then I am sure they can be sued by the stock holders for such an abusive stupid thing to do and I do not think GE is that stupid to take on such a liability and a risk of the litigation and maybe prosecutions that would result.

You are also suggesting that GM & GE are engaging a conspiracy to commit tax fraud, REALLY? REALLY?

    Government tyranny over:
Housing – Fannie & Freddie, community-organizing bank coercion (with tacit Democratic support, similar to OWS today)

Auto – took $17Billion tax dollars, gave the industry to Unions who supported Democrats, bond holders and private car dealers lost everything. Textbook definition of Crony capitalism.

Dodd-Frank – stifling regulations on small banks, but consolidation, not break-up of the Wall Street banks.

ObamaCare – where to even begin. 2700 pages of Government Control of our freedoms.

    …and that’s just a 5minute stream-of-consciousness.
You see Greece? – That’s us if this guy gets 4 more years.

    Let Stewart snark about that!

There were a lot of misconceptions about Obama in 2008.  His supporters wanted to see him in one way, while his opponents saw him in a much different way.  In both cases, we projected our hopes and fears onto him.  But in reality, the person he is isn’t the person that we assumed he would be.  The people who voted for him get this.  His opponents still see him as the bogeyman.

  • Just some Blow Hard…

    1.  While Freddie and Fannie did push for home ownership, the crash was caused by deregulating regular consumer banks with investment backs and insurance companies.  Therefor real estate (and energy, but that really doesn’t effect the housing crisis) was on a bubble due to speculation and banks used derivatives and placed bets on capital that wasn’t real. These deregulations came first in the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act which repealed Glass–Steagall which was enacted due to the great depression.  Guess what happened.

    2.  GM is now profitable and has paid the money back.  Chrystler is owned by Fiat and has paid the money back.  The big three (Ford bowed out) asked for a bail out much like wall street got (7 trillion dollars and no restrictions at all) however the government only agreed if they could restructure and make themselves profitable.  They did.  They also saved thousands (if not millions) of jobs and pensions.

    3.  Look at point one.  If we don’t fix that, it will happen again.  What do you propose?

    4.  Tyranny?  How?  By saying insurance companies must honor the contracts they sign?  By upping the age of children being covered? By modernizing the way records are kept?

    5.  Look at number one, huge corporate and high end tax cuts, and add the Athens Olympics and you get Greece.

Your tally of the Arab spring is the same as it was 20 years ago.  However 2 dictators are gone and a democratic form of government is now in place in both of those countries.  It happened with out a ground invasion or loss of an American Soldiers life.  Unlike Iraq.

How is this tyranny?  Or is it Hyperbolic?

1 – They coerced banks & backed the mortgages, without which no one would buy the worthless sub-prime instruments.

2- They still owe $15 Billion, and crony capitalism, not a free market (which is tantamount to a free people) remedy prevailed.

3- Exactly. The gov’t. has no business using taxpayer monies to give their supporters homes they can’t afford – that’s where the debacle started!

4 – By imposing mandates from an unaccountable regulatory bureaucrat.

5 – All GOP candidates propose a total revamping of the tax code – Obama does not.

Arab Spring – Iran & Syria just have to hope it’s never in Barack’s political interest to attack, that’s what’s paramount to him.

I have to agree with Stewart that many of the GOP “Crystal Ball” predictions were way off.

Now, in the next show, Stewart can show how Obama’s “Crystal Ball” predictions were way off.

The Deficit will be halved. Geithner just testified before a congressional committee:Geithner: You’re Right, We Have No Plan To Avert Fiscal Melt-Down; All We Know Is That We Don’t Like Your Plan.

Medical Costs will go down. (Latest CBO predictions say otherwise)

We will be seeing a  ”green energy” revolution.   Actually, N.Gas from Frackin and the Balkin Oil Fields are becoming major players in the Nation’s energy.

” I will sit down with Achmadinejad (sp) without preconditions.” How is that working out?

How is that comprehensive Border Security package working out?

Both sides have  very “Cloudy Crystal Balls.”

  • Just some Blow Hard…

    1. BullS@#$ they coerced. How can you coerce something that was used for 95% of their profits? It was in the banks interest to keep the process going. The crash was caused by inflated real estate. Therefor the banks lent too much money based off of speculation. Thats why so many people are “underwater.”

    2. Links please. Also why are not upset about the 7 trillion that the banks got with no restrictions?

    3. So the government caused the problem by removing government regulations and the only way to fix it is to repeal more regulations. Logic.

    5. There revamping of the tax code is making the tax cut permanent and slashing taxes across the board. None, except for Ron Paul, is for a flat tax or consumption tax. It isn’t revamping, its shifting burden. Also, so you agree that what I said caused the Greece problem.

Because invading a country has worked out so well for us in the past.

I agree. Ron Paul, no con, gets it, IMHO. Stay out of foreign entanglements. That includes Libya, Egypt, Syria, and of course, Iraq and Afpak.

But, looking back at 08, Bush was bashed by Obama for not dealing with Iran’s nukes. Remember how the US President needed to sit down with Ahmadinejad and have a chat, no preconditions.  How did that work out?

Both sides have gone “looney” in my opinion. We can do as Stewart did and pull quotes from the right that are “looney.”  He could pull quotes from the left and do a show. Charges about the T-party want to “lynch” and take back all our civil rights.  Lots and lots of quotes from both sides.

One provision of the bill is that companies employing 50 or more people have to provide health coverage, including temp agencies. This is great and closes a HUGE loophole that the right-wingnuts are fighting to this day. Companies outsourced many of their jobs to temp agencies to avoid paying for benefits. The radical right extremists are all about looking out for the interests of Rich White Men and they have subverted many to their cause with fear mongering, vitriol, lies and misinformation.

I read the NRA’s claim on that. It was quite a chuckle,

“For example, NRA members and gun owners fought hard for a law to ban government agencies like the Centers for Disease Control from using our tax dollars to produce blatant anti-gun propaganda. Obama wants to kill it in his budget.”

Are they being serious or is that supposed to be a joke? Look out folks, the Center for Disease Control is going to take your guns away.

Stewart clearly ramp-ping up to protect Obama’s re-election efforts.  Remember the days when Stewart would skewer the left as well – he stopped doing that after his march on Washington fiasco.

It would be funnier is he also showed democrats saying the same types of things about a W. presidency or a McCain presidency. It’s so f’ing biased and one sided that Stewart has become just another liberal hack.

Jon Stewart is such an Obama SHILL. I don’t care if he tries to deny it. He’s an overrated jerk who always tries to mock conservatives as not ‘rational’ but even though he denies it “I make fun of him too” (yeah, very gently and affectionately and always because he’s under the delusion he’s not liberal enough), he loves Obama, he thinks BHO is Mr. Wonderful. “Rational centrist” my ass.
He doesn’t understand at all how much Obama’s first term sucked, how much corruption, incompetence and arrogance went on, and in a second term, he could get even more rein without considering public opinion. It’s a horrifying thought.

Do you live in New York? We have not had winter and it’s friggin February. No Snow at all. And warm temperatures.

    NY Times
“Still, compared with the past 15 years, this winter is shaping up to be particularly skimpy, snow-wise. The past decade was the first, since weather records have been kept, that New York City had four consecutive years with at least 40 inches of snow. The record for annual snowfall was set in 1995-96, with 75.6 inches.”

Stewart has clearly figured out that righty-think — views of reality that are wildly delusional, don’t represent what the American people are thinking, and are sufficiently offputting to sane people as to further sink rightwing credibility — is the sweet spot of American political comedy just now.

Stewart struggled early in Obama’s administration because the President simply wasn’t preposterous enough (compared to GW Bush, for example) to make application of The Full Stewart effective. If the Republicans (and the rightwing in general) hadn’t completely lost their minds in 2009, Stewart would probably have had to double his writing staff to come up with jokes.

But luckily, the ‘Licans did set their hair on fire, providing Stewart with excellent comic fodder that he can harvest without breaking a sweat. Now the jokes almost write themselves.

As far as overrating him, it’s somewhat sad to note how wildly righties magnify Stewart’s powers. Trust me, the rumor that he can shoot death rays out of his armpit is an unsubstantiated exaggeration.

However, Stewart is a source of sanity and refreshment in a world with a crazies-per-thousand ratio that just keeps going up and up.

That’s the secret of his appeal, not which side of the political fence he sits on. It’s a sad fact of the human condition that conservative minds often have a blind spot with regard to funny, which means that humorists like Stewart tend liberal.

    Reality’s bias showing off again.
