Kirsten Powers On Bill Maher: His Comments On Bachmann, Palin Are Degrading To ‘All Women’

video

Fox News political analyst Kirsten Powers told Fox’s Greta Van Susteren comic Bill Maher‘s jokes about Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin represent an attack on “all women.” Maher, who has made no bones about his comedic high hopes for a Bachmann presidential campaign. On his HBO show Friday, Maher described the GOP field of potential presidential candidates as a Gilligan’s Island in the making, with Palin and Bachmann as “two bimbos,” Mitt Romney as “the millionaire” and Newt Gingrich as “the professor.”

“It degrades all women,” said Powers. “When you do this, you can choose these two women, but it degrades all women…if they’re not being called bimbos, they’re being called these scheming climbers…it’s not a minor thing.”

No worse than the things Bill O’Reilly have said, and I don’t recall any lawsuit brought by a woman on his staff for sexual harassment.

If women wanted to be principled, they would stop watching Bill O’Reilly.

RRKing agrees ! This is why I am always respectful of women .

RealRoyalKing ® explains . We want to tell our loyal fans that the reason we get so agitated when people point out the fact that we have so many screen names on this website is that when we appear as one of our other names , we become that person . We can vehemently deny our other selves because we believe that we are those people . We also dress the part . When we are a female character , iris , say , we put on our old pink housecoat , our pre – curlered wig and we swig from our bottle of Mountain Dew . Voila , we are iris ! As a male , say , Garth , we lower our IQ 80 points , put our baseball cap on sideways , light up a Kool and we’re ready to insult . For hours . We’ll be seeing our fans soon ! ©

I don’t think that it’s sexist to insult a woman’s intelligence any more than it’s sexist to call a man dumb.

What’s sexist is when you use terms, insults, and imagery particularly suited to gender, or to gender stereotypes.

    Bimbo… The Breck Girl… Battle Axe…etc.

Indeed, THAT does degrade all women, and it is NOT a minor thing.

All that, just off the top of my head.

And, I come from a family of strong women, my wife, my mother, my grandmothers my sisters, my aunts Vivian, Lucille, Nonnie, Mary Lou, Delight, Joyce, all of whom I adore.

I have often found that some women who are simply bossy mistake bossiness for strength and chastise men for being fearful of intimated by what they call strong women but are simply bossy. A truly strong women never need remind anyone she is strong.

To her credit , When Bill was caught in a lie , Hillary never whined about anyone out to get her husband :

On January 27, 1998, Hillary Clinton appeared on NBC’s The Today Show, in an interview with Matt Lauer.

Matt Lauer: “You have said, I understand, to some close friends, that this is the last great battle, and that one side or the other is going down here.”
Hillary Clinton: “Well, I don’t know if I’ve been that dramatic. That would sound like a good line from a movie. But I do believe that this is a battle. I mean, look at the very people who are involved in this — they have popped up in other settings. This is — the great story here for anybody willing to find it and write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president.”

One needs to consult the dictionary…. Bimbo: a woman regarded as vacuous (lacking intelligence) or as having an exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal. The definition fits Palin and Bachmann perfectly – neither is intelligent and both use their looks to further their position (if either wasn’t so good looking, they’d have been dropped long ago – see “Sarah Palin Voted Ultimate Fantasy Cougar in Survey of Younger Men” – we haven’t heard any whining about this because it’s about Sarah’s sexual attraction instead of her ditzy brain – this is a double standard).http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2011/03/23/prweb5182674.DTL

BUT Maher’s comments do NOT insult all women and the writer is wrong to say so. I think Maher is wrong to compare Mary Anne (from Gilligan’s Island) with either of these two ditzes, but I get the joke.

Did you hear what Palin said today about illegals in this country. She doesn’t want to deport them, she wants them to succeed. LOL Isn’t that the dumbest thing anyone has ever said. I bet Mediaite will do a story on that.

Wait a minute, it wasn’t Palin that said that stupid statement, it was Obama. I guess we won’t get a story about that on Mediaite.

President Barack Obama on Monday told a student who has received a deportation notice that he does not want to deport her — he wants people like her to succeed.

The exchange happened during a town hall event sponsored by the Spanish-language television network Univision at a Washington, D.C., school.

A student, who appeared via Skype, asked: “My question for the president is, why [is the government] saying that deportations have stopped — or the detention of many students like me, why is it that we are still receiving deportation letters like this one?”

Obama answered, “We have redesigned our enforcement practices under the law to make sure that we’re focusing primarily on criminals, and so our deportation of criminals are up about 70 percent. Our deportation of non-criminals are down, and that’s because we want to focus our resources on those folks who are destructive to the community.

“And for a young person like that young woman that we just spoke to who’s going to school, doing all the right things, we want them to succeed,” Obama said.

Finally accepting the fact that they make mistakes and aren’t perfect, the Tea Party is attempting to appeal to the American Idol demographic with a music video.
The Michele Bachmann Trio sings “We know we weren’t perfect” from her album Conservative as I wanna be on the newly formed Tea Party Records label.

Even though this is a parody poking fun at Michele Bachman I bet there are those that will think it is a really promo video despite the historically inaccurate babble Comments on similar videos usually include remarks about how hot she is or how sexy her voice is. She can make the most ridiculous statement and the Tea Party drones will just keep fawning over her regardless of the fact that in doing so they are voting against their own interests.

Finally accepting the fact that they make mistakes and aren’t perfect, the Tea Party is attempting to appeal to the American Idol demographic with a music video.
The Michele Bachmann Trio sings “We know we weren’t perfect” from her album Conservative as I wanna be on the newly formed Tea Party Records label.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjcmZtqidQk
Even though this is a parody poking fun at Michele Bachman I bet there are those that will think it is a really promo video despite the historically inaccurate babble Comments on similar videos usually include remarks about how hot she is or how sexy her voice is. She can make the most ridiculous statement and the Tea Party drones will just keep fawning over her regardless of the fact that in doing so they are voting against their own interests.

Everyone should be against discounting a woman by calling her a tw*t or a c*nt. You’d think such a super smart leftist like Maher could actually take on Palin through substantive arguments instead of derogatory slurs.

But usually when a man’s life ambition is to objectify plasticized fake bimbos at the Playboy Mansion, you know he doesn’t have a healthy, loving view of women in general.

If political debates and discussion were held on radio so all we had to go by is their words these two would have been dismissed a long time ago. Image does matter. When Kennedy and Nixon debated, those who heard the radio broadcast felt Nixon won the debate but those watched the TV broadcast felt Kennedy did. Obviously that itself is up for debate but the fact Nixon was sweating like pig under the TV lights sure didn’t help his image.
I am not concerned with Bachmann’s education, I am concerned with her ignorance of history and acute/ habitual case of foot in mouth disease.

Bachman graduated from William & Mary Law School and is living proof that one can do that degree of academic back ground and still not have a clear understanding of American History or the US Constitution. Just ask the founding fathers whom she claimed were trying to abolish slavery. Still…I’ll bet she’s great in bed!

Holy cow… I’m fairly certain that you did NOT mean to thoroughly back-up Kristen Power’s point with so many cultural illustrations , but goodness knows, that’s exactly what you did.

Not so many – just a definition of the slang (Maher was correct), and the results of what happens when a good looking female is promoted based on looks alone. If you get read many responses on Palin boards, few (none) base support for Sarah on her plans to fix issues (because she only points out what’s wrong), and MANY talk about how we need “beautiful, etc” Sarah as president.

As far as Maher insulting ALL women, that’s completely wrong. I don’t care for raunchy humor, but I’m sure many women were laughing at the joke. Palin and Bachmann are insults to intelligent, hard-working women who get where they are because of accomplishments (you see this posted by women).

“Palin and Bachmann are insults to intelligent, hard-working women who get where they are because of accomplishments (you see this posted by women).”

I don’t care what gender posted this, it’s a cynical gamesmanship that plays on the old sexist canard that the pretty girl had to use her looks in order to get where she is.

Keep in mind that this is being said by partisans who are only too glad to ignore the fact that not every pretty girl has the gumption…brains…etc. to get elected to congress or to a governorship.

Most astoundingly, in order to throw rocks, these partisans are only too willing to insult voters as having the depth of a thirteen year old.

It’s perfectly debatable to claim that neither Palin, nor Bachmann, have lived up to their offices and that they are in no way qualified for the job of POTUS.

You can do THAT without having to make sexist cheapshots that play upon stereotypes.

You most certainly can oppose these women without having to utter statements that make the Taliban look feminist in comparison.

Kirsten is wrong on this one because of the things Palin and Bachman say are not something 98% of the average woman would say much less believe. Plus they put themselves out there call everyone else names. Maher did cross the line when he call Palin the c—–word. I mean, there are countless other names Palin could and should be called but not that. That was inappropiate. Other than that Bill Maher is the best. He is excellent with satire and as everyone knows there is truth in the satire or it wouldn’t be funny. Keep going Bil!

But we do have to keep in mind that FNC favs Dennis Miller, Rush Limbaugh and to a lesser extent Greg Gutfeld have all been guilty of some pretty cruel misogynistic remarks.

It would have been interesting to have the debate at a neutral ‘women’s forum’ so Greta would have had to defend people featured on her own network.

Kirsten Powers On Bill Maher: Bachmann, Palin Are Degrading To ‘All Women’

For me, the bottom line – and I say this as a woman – is that it is PERFECTLY OBVIOUS that Palin in particular [can't call Bachmann a beauty, can we?] is a dumb twit. She is TOO STUPID to convince intelligent women who read and work at what they do to vote for her. She does everything as a reactionary, “Oh, I’m just a dumb twit of a woman” pose. This sickens me. I am not surprised she gets the slurs. Men support her – and make fun of her – because they can feel comfortable – and justified – that she’s never going to bring a sensible logical argument to the table. This is a woman who argues that breast-feeding for babeis is bad, so long as the president’s wife is promoting it.

I genuinely believe Mahler had no intention of insulting WOMEN. He was just deriding Palin and Bachmann. And as I have said in another post, neither of these women represent intelligent modern women in any more than a superficial way i.e. clothing and hair.
