‘This Is Complete Bullsh*t!’: Bill Maher Trashes Guest’s LeBron James ‘Scoop’ to His Face

Bill Maher was less than impressed with his guest’s “scoop” on LeBron James’s move to the Philadelphia 76ers, rolling his eyes at the theory the athlete was convinced by a politician to make the move.

During Real Time’s “Overtime” segment on Friday, Maher took a question about James move from the Los Angeles Lakers and Puck reporter Peter Hamby shared details from his report about a meeting between James and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D).

According to Hamby, Shapiro spoke with James at a New York club while having dinner with Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and the conversation was part of a larger effort to convince James to come to Philadelphia.

“Josh Shapiro was there having dinner with the Clintons, Bill and Hillary Clinton. They see LeBron James across the room, Bill says come over here, Josh Shapiro stands up and starts jaw-boning him about — this is when he’s a free agent — about coming to Philly. Politico reported later that he really put the work in with Rich Paul, his agent, and whatever. So, look, Josh Shapiro might run for president, but if you at the tweets after he got LeBron coming to — he’s up for reelection this year for governor —” Hamby said as Maher cut in.

“This is complete bullsh*t!” the host said.

“People in Philly are loving it!” Hamby told him.

“Oh, they’re loving it, but that’s not why LeBron James did it,” Maher said, arguing James simply wants to play with top tier players.

“I’m just telling you what happened. I’m not telling you that Josh Shapiro made it happen. I’m saying that’s what he was lobbying. He wasn’t the real reason. It’s an easy ring. He’s got two years left. He plugs in nicely,” Hamby said.

Maher took another sarcastic swing at the “scoop” before moving on.

“I’m just saying I know why LeBron James did it. Everybody knows why he did it. That’s why. He wants to play with the best players and a bigger chance at the ring. It wasn’t because of the governor. Oh, right! A politician wants me to do it!” he said.
