President Obama On Captured Drone In Iran: ‘We’ve Asked For It Back’

video

During a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, President Obama responded to a question about the downed spy drone that was captured in Iran. “As has already been indicated, we’ve asked for it back. We’ll see how the Iranians respond.”

RELATED: Iranian TV Airs Footage Of Captured US Drone

The top-secret spy drone had crashed inside Iran two weeks ago and, according to The New York Timeswas part of a stepped-up surveillance program that has frequently sent the United States’ most hard-to-detect drone into the country to map suspected nuclear sites.”

Watch Obama tell reporters the United States has asked for the spy drone back below via Fox News:

Wingnuts:  “Obama didn’t kill Bin Laden, he just gave the order!”

Wingnuts:  “Obama personally lost a drone in Iran!”

    He asked for it back…..LOL!!

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

The public gets a incomplete summary of the conversation.  The true conversation would be an important listen.  Nations keep such things hushed.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JC25VZ7V3BAAPNJ5C3R3YIP3WI j

As Barry was arrogantly soaking up all the credit for the successes in Iraq
and echoing the same justifications as to why President Bush took it on,
who in fact is due the credit, Barry was asked, “Do you still think it
was a dumb war?”. He did not answer the question.

  • http://twitter.com/ArtfulGeek anthony i.

If the bin Laden mission had been a failure, we’ll be hearing cries of how Obama personally screwed it up, and nothing about mere “orders.”

  • Anonymous

    But did you say “please”?

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

If Reagan were President, he would have just offered Iran some more of our military weapons in exchange for the drone back!!

Reagan negotiated with terrorists, Obama does not!!

They ignored wimpy Jimmy Carter also.

One of the Dumbest Presidents ever.    While he is at it why not ask Iran to stop building a nuclear bomb?

  • Anonymous

he asked for it back??  how’s that gonna work, barry?

  • http://twitter.com/Rushlimbang Brian Skinner

Iran was fighting Sadaam Hussein who was gassing people at the time……   Of course we would give them weapons.

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

It was a War that Bush and Cheney lied us into!!

Cheney claimed Iraq had connections with 9/11 and Bush said if something wasn’t immediately done, this country would be facing an “impending mushroom cloud”… both lied to the American people and used fear and revenge to get support for the War in Iraq!!

Over 4k American troops, 100k Iraqi civilians lost their lives and trillions of our dollars were spent… and for what??

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Reagan gave Iran weapons to release the American hostages… but wanted them released only after he won the election!!

  • AMP2020

Asked for it back = LOLOLOLOLOLOL. I’m not laughing at anyone in particular- just the situation in general.

  • Gloves J. Donahue

Hey Barry. Just tell Iran they’re supposed to play fair.

  • Henry Wood

Where did Saddam get the poison gas from?  Oh right, Saint Ronnie of Raygun.

  • Anonymous

Nah. Asking for it back makes perfect sense.  Then, once you see how they respond, you can take other actions if necessary.  If Iran refuses it gives us cause to escalate in whatever way we see fit–but you have to at least make a show of a good will gesture by asking them for it back first.

Quite frankly, though, I really don’t think a single drone is worth going to war over.

  • http://twitter.com/Rushlimbang Brian Skinner

Obama did screw it up.   He gave Osama a dignified burial and deprived americans of the satisfaction of seeing a picture of Bin Laden with a hole in his head. At least the Russians had the decency to unceremoniously burn Hitlers body with gasoline.

Quote, please. And also cite the part of the AUMF that says we went in because Iraq was behind 9/11.

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

Most of what you know is not so.  Read more.  It helps.

  • Pablo

You lie. They got no poison gas, nor any other weapons from us.

  • http://twitter.com/Rushlimbang Brian Skinner

please tell me what part of what I said above is factually wrong.

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

A direct causal link between Iraq/ 9-11 was not forged by Bush/ Cheney in the AUMF… but a link was established explicitly as part of the larger justification for war.

    “Whereas Iraq continues to aid and harbor other international terrorist organizations, including organizations that threaten the lives and safety of American citizens;

Whereas the attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001 underscored the gravity of the threat posed by the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction by international terrorist organizations;”

“We did have reporting that was public, that came out shortly after the
9/11 attack, provided by the Czech government, suggesting there had been a meeting in Prague between Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker, and a man named al-Ani (Ahmed Khalil Ibrahim Samir al-Ani), who was an Iraqi intelligence official in Prague, at the embassy there, in April of ’01, prior to the 9/11 attacks. It has never been — we’ve never been able to
collect any more information on that. That was the one that possibly
tied the two together to 9/11.” – Transcript of Interview with Vice President Dick Cheney, Rocky Mountain News (1/9/2004) – BushOnIraq.com

It was a War that Bush, Cheney, Clinton, Pelosi, Reid and the intelligence communities of many countries lied us into!! It was said to be common knowledge that they had WMD’s back then. Don’t think that is considered a lie when it is bad info from everyone. I’ve heard it said that they lied to Pelosi and Reid and the democrats but you can’t say that when President Clinton having just left office confirmed that they had WMD. Clinton had the same intel as Bush. In fact most of what Bush had was gathered under Clinton.

    2:  ”Russians”
    Russians were not there.
“Someone shouted to me: ‘Hurry upstairs, they’re burning the boss!’ I decided not to go because I had noticed that Mueller from the Gestapo was there – and he was never usually around. I said to my comrade Hentschel, the mechanic: ‘Maybe we will be killed for being the last witnesses.’”

That isn’t a link between the two, it’s acknowledgement of the threat posed by WMD’s in the wrong hands, and the fact that some of those wrong hands were residing in Iraq. Like Zarqawi and Ansar al-Islam. It does not assign any Iraq based cause of 9/11. Which is why it doesn’t say “Whereas Iraq participated in planning and/or executing the September 11, 2001 attacks by XXXX…”

You know all presidents are accused of outlandish things by some critics.  Whether it’s lying about WMD in order to stage a domestic trashing of the Bill of Rights by Bush, or arguing that Clinton intentionally aided the Chinese military  machine.

The key lies in not taking these people so seriously that you start to think as they do– that is that there is no essential difference between your president and your fellow citizens from foreign enemies bent on putting you six feet under.

  • Henry Wood

Well, it’s not that abstract a concept… Both YOU and this ObamaIsObama person (who you’ve called Big Brother) are making grossly unfair comparisons of political opponents to sharia fanatics.

  • Cecelia

My point is that no matter how much religious conservatives may want to return to American circa 1966 they aren’t agitating for a suspension of the democratic process in order to get there.

Oh, they’ll be accusations that both sides wish to impose their views via stacking the courts, but even THAT is part of a Democratic process, etc.

Again, this sort of comparison makes you no better than the people who accuse the president of being a stealth Muslim extremist.

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

    Now I understand.
    A: Gross comparisons are unfair.
B: Drawing a line across international lines to highlight the problem of fundamentalism is the same as drawing a line between Al-Qaeda and a secret overthrow of Americas political system as revealed by a man haunted by choirs of government trained children.

Oh, absolutely there’s a fair comparison to be made between two blogboard denizens engaged in smearing political opponents as being the equivalent of the ya-ya brotherhood of theocratic fascists.

Conversely it is NOT in any way a fair comparison to suggest that either religious conservatives or the current president of the United States are such.

There’s a difference between calling someone a partisan bomb thrower, from calling them extremist tyrants.

President Obama On Captured Drone In Iran: ‘We’ve Asked For It Back’

LOL. Oh President Carter… I mean Obama… you so silly!

  • Anonymous

As silly when Bush asked for a spy plane back?  You’re an idiot.

    Illusive_brain is more like it…

  • Anonymous

    Touche dipshit.

  • Cecelia

BTW– who are these “government trained children” you mention?

  • Anonymous

I guess Obama has an itching finger and is going to WHIP some “appeasement” on Iran….

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

That renegotiation of a logical principal served you well.

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

…you have to read his site. I can’t do it proper justice in summary.

  • Cecelia

It wasn’t a “renegotiation” of anything. It’s precisely what I said when I began this discussion by suggesting that you’re sounding like the people you’re condemning.

More simple thoughts….. from a simple mind.

I don’t want to punch some site up and get a thousand computer viruses.

Just tell what govt you think is behind this person doing this.

I was simply trying to jolt him out of his madness Cecilia.

Well,  we  may look back at this point in history and say that Obama picked the wrong side in the ME. It’s not looking good for Egypt or Libya at this point and the sad thing is that only American leftists are surprised by the fundamentalist Islamic uprising unfolding before us.

I have guests due in less than an hour… and so must take this up another time. Cheers dearest Cecilia!

How would the drone press the SELF-destruct button?

You must mean a regular destruct button pressed by the operator of the drone,
    Not itself

  • Cecelia

See, you later, Greg. I’ll look forward to it.

Zarqawi went to Iraq after having been injured in Afghanistan and quite a number of his friends followed him.

Zarqawi never rose to power. He got his ass blowed up.

    I’m asking about Iraq, Keeva.

“We heavily armed Iraq to stand against Iran after the clerics too over.”

That’s what I’m taking issue with. The Rense piece is gobbldeygook. The nugget of truth around which a whole ton of lies have been spun lies in “dual use” materials. Which are not weapons.

You say we armed them. With what arms and when? That is the question.

Why don’t you give that a rest?  Why not talk about the fire bombing of Japanese cities during WWII or maybe the dropping of A-Bombs on two Japanese civilian cities…  or the bombing of Dresden….  why don’t you talk about that, or Kennedy/Johnson putting us into the ugliest war of our history when we had no reason whatsoever to be there!, we lost 50,000 American lives and an untold number of civilian casualties, and won’t even talk about what we did to their environment with agent orange.   It’s all history and Bush is not running this year last time I checked, nor is Cheney, currently Obama is killing plenty of civilians with his drones…  inciting 1000′s to join the jihad against the US why don’t you talk about that?  The Bush bashing is getting old, and you have no proof that he lied as many prominent democrats are on the record saying the exact same things as Bush was saying, regardless, like I said, Bush is not the president, nor is he in the race, you guys sound much too much like an old broken record…  or maybe even spoiled children, can you say nah nah nahna nah na!?

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

I can understand the pain and embarrassment Bush has caused you, but as much as you would like to pretend that Bush was never President… he was and history will not be so kind to his legacy!!

Also… nah nah nahna nah na!!

Who helped topple Kadaffi?  Oh that’s right.

But the republiklans were against it before they were for it and then against it again.

Consider for a second what would have happened had Obama NOT given the kill order when the CIA and the SeALS had bin Laden in  their sights and Barry backed down.

For sure it would have leaked and he would have been toast.

Americans can accept a failed mission.  They can’t accept a coward.  Obama had no choice but to give the order.

And $50 bucks says the “sleep on it” was necessary to put poll out and set up the messaging if the mission failed.

    He’s an ass.

Who cares about Bush or Obama. They’re both corrupt and foolish politicians. And stop sucking Obama’s balls. You’re embarrassing the species.

At least from this libertarians perspective, the GOP, at the very least, consists of humans. Most “progressives and liberals” I know of shit in the streets. Humans don’t do that.

Bush is not in this election, nor is he or the Iraqi war the subject of this thread. It seems a high priority for democrats to keep talking about Bush as there is little good to say for our current president on moving forward with the things necessary for our economy to recover..  the president has been absent in all major issues facing our economy as he offers no solutions other than echo’s of class warfare and his divisive rhetoric…  So I understand your need to keep pushing back on George Bush, but the fact is that Bush and Obama are not so much unalike… they are both progressives which defines them more so than do their party affiliations.  The conservative movement is not looking for another George Bush, nor would it be smart for them to try and defend his record in office, he was taken by surprise on 9/11 and made major mistakes in his response to it..  from the war in Iraq and assault on our rights to privacy, to his expansion of the federal bureaucracies to strip us of our constitutional rights. The closer one looks at Bush the easier it is to see that his policies were more inline with the Democratic Party than they were inline with mainstream conservatism.  Bush had no problem running his huge deficits and doubling the national debt…  he was anything but a conservative..  So go ahead and keep sounding that Bush drum…  but like I said he is not running for office.

awwww….poor widdle wingnuts – didn’t get your revenge porn in the form of a gruesome photo. The rest of us are a tad more civilized than you.

No, Bush asked for both the crew and the plane.

His comment was pretty accurate.  In fact he was kind with his “drone” comment.  My spouse just rolls his eyes when he hears that the teleprompter maestro will be reading a statement.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GVWU6V6ORHYQ57UOHAEI52XTVU Dennis

first, if a frog had wings he’d be screwing woodpeckers. Secondly, OUR president has asked Iran for our drone back and we’ll wait and see what they say?? I can’t believe I heard those idiotic words come out of his mouth. I can tell you what Iran is going to say, no need to wait on that response you goofy ass. Hey, while you’re at it Obama, go ahead and just ask Iran to pretty please not build a nuke missile. Jesus freakin h christ.

who gets credit for the moon mission is it Nixon or JFK?  They landed when Nixon was President right???  But we all know if it wasn’t for the hard work done by Kennedy pushing the mission years earlier it wouldn’t have occurred.

  • Anonymous

Apparently you haven’t been listening to the news, the drones go through phases after veering off course or being lost, eventually they self destruct,  they also can be destroyed.  This one did not and that is why some in the news are wondering if the computer system had been hijacked.

  • Anonymous

I copy and pasted his quote…are you able to read?

“…Our priorities are the prompt and
safe return of the crew and the return of
the aircraft without further damaging or
    tampering.”

Does that statement sound like he is asking them to keep it?  LOL – you’re silly.

Wow – a teleprompter comment.  Genius.  Because he’s the only President who ever used one…right?  Brilliant.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, we asked for it back Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.  Obama is really great at International Politics.

Hey Obie, did you ask China or Iran?

Maybe if Obama said “pretty please”…..this president is the most inept and weakest “sister” we’ve ever had to contend with…Carter almost destroyed us and it looks like Obama is trying his best to finish the job.

  • Anonymous

Bush said “our priorities are” – he did not say “Chairman Mao please can we have it back”.

Silly Obama Politely Asks Iran to Give Us Our Drone Back
Obama thinks we just punted our football over the fence and the nice neighbor will give it back…LOL!!!
Just go get the silly drone….you moron!
Some of your relatives probably have it up on blocks in their front yard.
What a total embarrassment this boy is.

  • http://www.google.com Doodaddio

His asking for it back is kind of like giving a gift and then asking for it to be given back, isn’t it?

Personally, I think he meant to give it to them – part of a new BATFE program; Operation Drone Walker. Next he will try to use it to outlaw surveillance drones because they cost a lot of taxpayer money to build and maintain, and spying on countries like Iran is just wrong.

    (sarcasm ON)

  • barbara clemen

Do you really,or anybody else, have a doubt this is part of Obies plan?
This man is has accomplished nothing ,except to futher the muslim brotherhood.Exchange vital top secret hardware with our enemies,or enabled the same to acquire the knowledge they have no business knowing.
And to what end? Bring us to our perceived knees.

He’s not only an embarrassment to our Country,he’s the greatest threat to our nation we have ever seen.
