Rachel Maddow Opens New Front In Union Wars Against Massachusetts Democrats

video

Throughout the past several months, the main headline regarding the union battle has been the campaign by Wisconsin Republicans– led by Governor Scott Walker to restrict collective bargaining rights. According to Rachel Maddow, the tactic has done nothing but hurt the Republican Party and, she jokes, in part because of its efficiency in generating failure, the bluest of blue states is following suit– Massachusetts.

Maddow opened her program last night with some good news for Democrats, beginning with how Sen. John Ensign‘s replacement, current Rep. Dean Heller, is going to explain voting for the Ryan budget bill twice– once in each chamber of Congress. Then there’s the 2012 race, which Maddow accurately described as a bit of a hodgepodge– “We’re supposed to have a primary debate soon, it is unclear who is in it,” she noted by way of example, arguing that “Republicans are just not eager to start the race.” What’s more, Congressmen in town hall meetings are getting their fair share of heckling for supporting the Republican budget. Granted, the population of every town hall meeting is skewed toward the disgruntled, since they generally have more of a reason to drop by. Nonetheless, Maddow concludes this is a perfect climate in which to propose progressive legislation.

So what is the most progressive state legislature in the most progressive state in the union doing? Limiting union bargaining rights, no differently than Republicans elsewhere. While Maddow explains that the overwhelmingly Democratic Massachusetts legislature is not trying to completely dismantle unions– only handicap them– she still perceives the threat, and finds it yet another tragicomic example of Democratic Party philosophy:

Democrats are really good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They say that the only extreme gun law Democrats always support is the right to shoot themselves in their own foot. They say Democrats have never seen an opportunity they either didn’t reject or turn inside out so they could figure out a way it could make them lose instead of win. There is a reason people say this about Democrats.

If Democrats truly are in the position Maddow outlined at the beginning of her segment, Republicans sure had better hope she’s right about their nature.

Nonpartisan , impartial , unaffiliated MSNBC’s Maddow seems to be seeing things from the lefty side just a bit .

Don’t let Matthews , O’Donnell or Schultz catch you veering from MSNBC’s straight down the middle policy , Missy .

  • The Lantern of Truth

Trumka may have to send his chief union thug Barry Obama up to have a chat with these radicals .

  • Liberal Tormentor

You’ll notice the liberal media is largely ignoring this story, since there is no Republican Governor to bash.

    What liberal media bias?

  • Barack Must Go

Do we know for a fact that those acting out at Republican town hall meetings are in fact Republicans and not those 86 Media Matters Glenn Beck stalkers recently laid off due to Beck leaving his show.

Again, with mouth moving in perfect precision Maddow speaks out of her ass in reporting, as fact, the baseless claim of Republican on Republican attacks at these meetings.

Time for O’Reilly to dispatch Jesse Waters to report back on the truth about the protesters.

All available conservatives should also go to democrat town hall meetings and ask EXACTLY what Obama and the dems are going to do about Medicare between now and election day.

So far their plans only consist of NOTHING and bashing the Republicans. ” Real ” American people need to have this partisan politics at it’s sleeziest fact brought to thier attention.

Doing nothing is not an option.

DO you realize that if mediaite’s Frances Martel didn’t watch maddow, her viewership would decrease by 50% ?

Well Francis deserves hazard pay for doing so.

You couldn’t pay me enough to watch Racel Maddow.

Whenever I hear her voice I have a flashback to the nun hanging herself in the ‘ Airplane ” movie, she’s that monotonous and sing songy.

Its funny, you know when she does her ‘crazy I’m such a fun humorous intelligent person’ hand waving and funny voice… That voice always reminds me of the cryogenic tech from Futurama, the one with the glasses, who says; “Welcome to the world of tomorrow.” She’s so awesome and smart.

Yeah, well I’d rather watch a Rhodes Scholar with a Ph.D. in politics than any of the high school graduates on Faux News. I prefer my pundits well educated and bright while others it seems prefer theirs uneducated and paranoid.

  • hunterwilkinson

Alice, the Faux News folks you are referring to have Doctorates, JD and degrees in education. They have all, not coincidentally, worked in the real world. Unlike Barry & Rachel, these people know what it is like to work hard for something. To earn it. Get over yourself.

  • Probably NOT wrong

The “bluest of blue states” is fallowing suit? Gee, Ms.Maddow, what reason could there be for that? Could it be that the states can no longer afford the ridiculous Public Union demands….could that be it?!!

I know this might be hard for you being a progressive and all, but why don’t you just turn off the “news” and think for yourself? Why do you want to be lied to by a Rhodes Scholar?

What Doctorate does Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck have? I think O’Reilly is the only one to go as far as having an undergraduate degree.

Hannity and Beck both did not finish college. However their success later speaks volumes. As in over $30mil a year in volume. BTW that is Becks annual income from his business.
However, you left off Megan Kelly = JD, Laura Ingram = JD, Charles Krautheimer = Doctorate, Sephard Smith = Journalism, Bill O’Rielly = Masters from Harvard……………………….
Do I need to go on?

So! This is the ‘other thing’ that the pot-banging Racer, Maddow, likes moaning about.

Any mention of Maddow seems to bring out the right-wing’s homophobe contingent. Beats thinking about the issues – or anything else – don’t it? Kinda pathetic.

Academic credentials and accomplishments are not absolute guarantors of success. That being said, why do so many conservatives equate money (or ratings) with success? I don’t care as much about who’s well paid and who’s getting good ratings as I do about who is reporting useful, factual information . . . and who is NOT.

Fakes “News” gets the ratings and their on-air talent makes the money – but they also have been provably dishonest in much of their reportage, which makes them valueless to me.

Fox’s Shepard Smith is lauded for his truthfulness. While admirable, why is he such an exception? Maddow has been critical of the administration in the past and is now questioning the actions of Mass. Democrats, proving she is not a doctrinaire liberal Dem.

While Republicans walk in lockstep, Dems tend to march to their own respective tunes. They prefer to think for themselves, which is both their weakness and their strength.
