Saturday Night Live Has A Message From Rick Santorum

video

Remember a few weeks ago, when “Saturday Night Live” aired a presidential debate sketch where the candidates were seated according to their chances in the polls, and Rick Santorum was left to participate via satellite from a gay bar in the San Francisco’s Castro District? Oh, so very much has changed since then. This week’s episode began with an address from Rick Santorum himself, played by Andy Samberg (wearing Santorum’s now-signature sweater vest, of course).

“What is this campaign about?” Santorum asked rhetorically. Well, his first priority is making “family” the linchpin of public policy, and a very close second is starting a war with Iran “as a favor to Israel.” After laying out these goals, Santorum made a vow to campaign in every single county in the United States, perhaps as a way to set himself apart from the über-efficient Mitt Romney? The two take-aways from this sketch for me were that Samberg’s Santorum impression is among my favorite Republican candidate impersonations on the show, and that provided that lesbians and “Mormon death squads” don’t take him out of the race too quickly, we’ll get to see more of it. Oh, and Armisen finally got a break from doing cold opens!

You can see the full sketch here via NBC:

Sounds just like him.  He’s s jerk.  He would have made a great pioneer.

My money is on the Mormon Lesbian death squads.  They tend to grow exponentially because every female member is a polygamist.

Really? I just came down to the comments section to mention what a terrible impersonation this is. And more importantly, not funny.

Why is SNL being bigoted towards Mormons?

    That is pure bigotry.

Why is SNL still giving Santorum a hard time when Texas candidate for Senator CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS.

I really miss the days when I would literally laugh out loud at a quality SNL skit. Now it takes me 10 minutes to crack a smile and that is only when it goes to commercial. This skit was horrendous and Samberg needs to get out now if he wants to survive. Painful to watch. Seriously, compare this to the Will Farrell/Dana Carvey as Bush the Elder and his son skit. You can’t

This site is lame; just as lame as SNL.

This bit had a few valuable moments… Would have liked some unexpected action to interrupt the monologue.

Chevy Chase doing Gerald Ford was far better than this.

I think mediaite is useful, that is why I come here. If you think mediaite is lame, Stoney, why are you here?

It was typical SNL a funny joke for a minute that they try to stretch to 5 mins.

learn about Mormonism and you will answer your question.

Notice how the Obama impersonations on SNL have diminished in this election year?

SNL suffers from opening skits that are about 4 minutes too long

“Angry pillow biters and donut buffers”…at least SNL didn’t chicken out of the homophobe angle.

You see, SNL is an IMPROVISATIONAL COMEDY show. Rick Santorum has openly embraced bigotry towards homosexuals, and non-Catholics. The show was making fun of THE BIGOTRY OF RICK SANTORUM.

lol, page full of Santorum supporting homophobes.

I have NEVER got Andy Samberg. He is the most unfunny person ever on SNL. I FF every time his face appears.  Is it just me?

I’ve noted that too. It is probably due to the excessive amounts of comedy gold being offered up to the SNL writing staff on a weekly basis from the Republican Presidential candidates.

    We are
closing schools, laying people off. Families are being foreclosed on and being
put out in the streets. And all Santorum, running for President can talk about
is who is Gay. We need to start looking at what is best for the country. We are
not in high school any more.  Hello!!!  Yes it is a good way to raise money. But I
think the Republicans have a “gay agenda”, more than the gay community
has.  They have nothing to say, so they
go for the gay! It will be a dark day for ALL of us if this man wins.  It is not just a Gay thing; Santorum has
frequently stated that he does not believe a “right to privacy”
exists under the Constitution, even within marriage.  The boy and girl kind!

  • 12voltman1

    That is pure bigotry?
    Yes, From the Republican base.
Because most Democrats do not care.

  • 12voltman1

Craig James is not running for president.

  • 12voltman1

    Is that a philosophical question?

  • 12voltman1

    Not Creepy enough.

  • Anonymous

actually, the polls show that the percent of dems being against a mormon is much higher than on the GOP side.  Almost double in fact.

  • Peoria Englewood

The skit was hilarious… and I hate SNL

  • 12voltman1

Dems wouldn’t vote for him anyways.

  • Anonymous

But they are more bigoted about religion.  You just refuse to admit it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Derek-Rife/1253520073 Derek Rife

They’re mocking Rick Santorum, who’s pretty much the biggest bigot in the race.

  • 12voltman1

Bigoted? That is a stretch of the definition.
Mormons are conservative.Dems voting for a conservative?
    I don’t think so.
But the fact is that there is a high percentage among evangelical Christians who will not vote for Romney.

And seeing how I’m post-menopausal, does that mean my spouse & I can’t have sex anymore? The mister is not going to like that!

    Cant be worse than Judaism.

  • Anonymous

Why should people be tolerant of  mythical religions? How many people have been killed or oppressed by phony religions?Believing in something doesn’t make it true.

  • Anonymous

    Yes, it is.

  • Anonymous

News flash: TWO Mormons are running for President, and they were making fun of the Catholic, not of Mormons.

  • Anonymous

Evangelicals hate Mormons; Dems are simply – and rightly – wary of anyone who feels the need to make U.S. a Christian theocracy.

  • * Shireinu

From someone who obviously knows nothing about Judaism.

  • * Shireinu

Absolutely false. If Romney doesn’t win the nomination, it’ll be because of bigots in his own party.

Once again, SNL misses the opportunity to do something hilarious.  Frothy Rick and the other candidates have been performing the show of all shows yet SNL can’t do better than THIS with the assclown circus?
