‘Where’s the Needlepoint?’: MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Mocks McMorris Rodgers’ GOP Response
Look, I’m pretty neutral when it comes to this “War Over Who Is Waging a War on Women” thing. I’d say there’s a good amount of merit in suggesting the Republican Party is terrible when it comes to courting women and discussing women’s issues; but I’d also argue that plenty of Democratic policies have negative effects on women, too, however unintentional. Such is the peril of being a libertarian.
Either way, one of the foremost activists in flagging the GOP’s shortcomings and patronizing attitude towards women has been MSNBC host Alex Wagner.
And yet, during Cathy McMorris Rodgers‘ official GOP response to the State of the Union, Wagner tweeted this:
Living room. Lady on a settee. Where's the needlepoint?
— Alex Wagner (@alexwagner) January 29, 2014
Yeah, it’s a harmless joke. But one can’t help but wonder how Wagner herself would react if those subtly mocking words were said about a female Democrat making a speech in front of a similar background.
It’s really hard to talk a good game about female empowerment and then belittle one simply for speaking in a setting you find excessively dainty; and for being a Republican.
UPDATE: Curious to know how Wagner would have reacted if someone had said something similar about this Hillary Clinton video, [h/t @redsteeze]:
