The suspect in a New York City shooting on Monday that killed four people, including an NYPD officer, was identified by the New York Post.
Citing law enforcement sources, the New York Post identified 27-year-old Las Vegas man Shane Tamura as the suspect in the shooting at 345 Park Avenue, Manhattan.
Tamura was allegedly found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of a skyscraper at the address and was found to be in possession of a Las Vegas Concealed Firearms Permit.
The suspect was also reportedly carrying a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 assault rifle.
“Due to police activity, please avoid the vicinity of East 52 Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Expect emergency vehicles & delays in the surrounding area,” advised the New York Police Department (NYPD) on Monday evening.
Just over an hour later, the NYPD added, “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter is dead.”
According to the latest reports, the gunman killed four people and critically wounded one other before turning the gun on himself.
In a video at the scene, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the suspect had been “neutralized” and that he would shortly be visiting families of the injured in hospital.
“This is Mayor Eric Adams and I’m here at the scene of 51st in Park Avenue. Unfortunately, we had a shooting here with multiple injuries. The perpetrator, the lone perpetrator, is neutralized at this time. Those who are in the building, we’re asking you to remain inside,” said Adams. “We’ll be going over to the hospital to speak to family and loved ones involved in this incident.”
