Bill O’Reilly Applauds Bill Maher for Mocking ‘Boring’ NPR… on NPR

Bill O’Reilly gave Bill Maher some kudos for making fun of NPR and branding both the outlet and its fans nothing more than far-left stooges during an interview with NPR earlier this week.

O’Reilly reviewed the Maher-NPR conversation on his YouTube show on Thursday, one day after it happened. Maher said NPR represented the “far extreme of the left” and sardonically said its audience would “love” he was being interviewed, considering he is more centrist.

The ex-Fox News star said Maher’s diagnosis was spot-on.

“He’s right, anybody who thinks that NPR and PBS are fair brokers of information is just a lunatic! They’re not,” O’Reilly said. “And they don’t even have to compete for money, because they’re donation-driven now.”

That came a moment after O’Reilly said NPR has another big problem: it puts people to sleep.

“It’s boring to me. Boring, okay?” O’Reilly said. “There’s nothing on there that I want to listen to, because I know what they’re gonna to say and what they’re gonna do. They never surprise you.”

O’Reilly went on by saying he understood Maher’s shock at being interviewed by NPR was because the Real Time host does not hold “across-the-board progressive tenets.”

He also said Maher does not worship “at the alter of socialism,” which is increasingly popular among Democrats in 2026. O’Reilly said NPR deserved credit for interviewing Maher, but he suggested the outlet did it for “for other reasons” — like getting some easy publicity.

“[When was] the last time anybody heard NPR do anything? NEVER!” O’Reilly said.

His breakdown followed Maher talking to NPR’s Steve Inskeep on the Newsmakers podcast. Maher said he believed NPR’s audience is so hyper-leftist at this point listeners would revolt against his appearance.

“I’m surprised you even had me on!” Maher said at one point.

The veteran comic has bashed Democrats and leftists numerous times over the past few years. Maher told CNN in 2024 he doesn’t think his liberal views have swayed much since he first started talking politics on TV in the 1990s, but “the left has changed” since then — and not for the better.

O’Reilly on Thursday added every news agency has been “infected” with the same issue — “everyone plays to its perceived choir, its audience.”
