Attorney General Pam Bondi has come under fire from MAGA-world over last Thursday’s Jeffrey Epstein document dump which contained little new information about the late sex offender. Bondi hyped the document release by giving a binder of the documents to a handful of MAGA influencers. Now, a new report reveals that Bondi arranged that spectacle without the White House’s knowledge.
According to ABC News, the White House was completely blindsided by Bondi giving out the binders titled “Epstein Files: Phase 1” to the Right-wing influencers. ABC’s Will Steakin, Katherine Faulders, and Alexander Mallin report that the move has “ruffled feathers” inside the White House.
The influencers were invited to the White House, according to the report, because the administration wanted to “engage influential pro-Trump voices who the president credits with aiding his 2024 campaign.” It was not part of the White House’s plan to give these influencers Epstein documents — Bondi reportedly acted on her own.
From the ABC report:
“Ahead of the Justice Department’s public release, Bondi directed her staff to compile binders of the materials to distribute to the influencers at the event, sources said. She also instructed her team not to inform White House officials of the plan, according to multiple sources, apparently thinking the surprise would be well received inside the West Wing.”
ABC reports White House staffers privately reached out to influencers who were critical of Bondi in an effort to mend fences over the widely-panned document dump.
In the days since, Bondi has been in full-on damage control mode. She has made several appearances on Fox News — claiming she received a more complete tranche of documents on Friday morning, and vowing to release them soon.
