CNN’s Elie Honig Blasts Jeanine Pirro For Charging Case Without Knowing ‘What the Evidence Was’

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig suggested Monday that U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s Reflecting Pool case was doomed from the start due to a lack of evidence.

On Friday, Pirro — the U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. — sought to dismiss the case against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn. Hearn was accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, leading to its dire state shortly after President Donald Trump’s pricey renovation project. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In a court filing, Pirro even admitted that the issues with the pool stemmed from “flawed installation.”

Pirro’s decision drew the ire of Trump, who said on Trump social that he disagreed with her “100%” for dismissing the case. He even questioned her thinking and stood firm on the theory that the pool was damaged by vandals.

Reacting to the case dismissal Monday, Hoenig argued that Pirro shouldn’t have pressed charges in the first place. He added:

Jeanine Pirro came out — you remember, Pam — with a vociferous press conference where she came out and pounded the podium and said this is a very serious case, and we have very strong evidence, and it needs to be prosecuted, and this person committed a felony. Now, she’s completely backing out of that because she realizes that her proof is completely lacking. So if someone wants to fault Jeanine Pirro, it should be for bringing this case in the first place before she even knew what the evidence was, and not for pulling the plug now. I mean, there’s plenty of fault to go around here, but as much as the president may want this case to come back to life, there’s just nothing there. And if you don’t have the proof, you’re never going to have a case.
