Fox Contributor Insists Lindsay Clancy Was ‘Being Tortured’ for ‘Months’ Before Killing Her Kids
Lindsay Clancy was “being tortured” for “months” before she killed her three young children, Fox contributor Joshua Ritter said Wednesday.
Ritter discussed the ongoing Clancy trial, saying, “She was being tortured and she was desperately seeking help. We have heard about weeks and months that she was going to different therapists, being prescribed different medications, some of those medications were having adverse reaction, some of the medications were having adverse reactions with each other.”
“She was seeking help anywhere she could get it and we are talking about serious help, talking about a person who’s talking about self-harm from a person who’s having intrusive thoughts. She was desperate,” added the former prosecutor, concluding:
And I think what’s coming across too is she was very earnest in her seeking help, which is against what the prosecution has been arguing in this case, that much of this may have been fabricated or made up. I don’t think any of that has been proven. I think it’s abundantly clear that this was a woman who was desperately in need of help. The defense is trying to make the case that because of that, because of the failures of the mental health care system, she was put on this collision course with disaster.
Clancy, 36, has admitted she killed Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023, and has pleaded not guilty. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is arguing in court she cannot be held criminally accountable for the deaths because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.
After killing her children, Clancy cut her wrists and neck and jumped out of a second-floor window of the family’s former home. She is now paralyzed from the neck down.
Per the Cleveland Clinic, postpartum psychosis can impact a mother’s “sense of reality, causing hallucinations, delusions, paranoia or other behavior changes. In severe cases, people with PPP may attempt to harm themselves or their newborn.”
Clancy’s case is gaining nationwide and even international attention.
Her ex-husband Patrick Clancy was a key witness during the trial’s first week. He described his ex-wife as a “very dedicated” mother, and noted that her mental health took a turn as she was preparing to go back to work following Callan’s birth in 2022. “She just had a really hard time being separated from them,” he said.
Lindsay was prescribed several medications between September 2022 and January 2023. Per CNN, she experienced what Patrick described as a “big spiral” after she began taking an antipsychotic drug in December 2022.
Her former mother-in-law Susan Clancy also testified the family was “all concerned” about Lindsay.
Forensic psychologist Dr. Paul Ziesel, who said “he had visits with Ms. Clancy more than 60 times after the killings” also testified she “heard a male voice telling her that she didn’t have any choice but she had to kill her children, and then kill herself.”
