Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) claimed without evidence on Sunday night that Republicans have to “cheat” in elections.
“Republicans can’t win on their record alone,” he said in an X post. ‘So they cheat.”
Pritzker did not elaborate.
The post has nearly 3,000 comments, mostly attacking Pritzker, a rumored 2028 White House candidate.
“Totally irresponsible to be saying stuff like this in this environment,” VoteBeat managing editor Nathaniel Rakich said in a reply to Pritzker’s post.
On Saturday, Pritzker unleashed two attacks on President Donald Trump, saying, “Donald Trump’s so-called ‘SAVE America Act’ isn’t about saving American elections. It’s about saving the Republican party.”
He followed up with, “Everything we care about is under siege by a racist, misogynist, and homophobic president.”
The governor has often attracted the ire of Trump, who once posted an AI-generated image of Pritzker feasting at a buffet.
In addition, the president has often claimed that Pritzker was tossed out of his family’s hotel business.
In return, Pritzker has repeatedly charged that the president suffers from dementia.
Pritzker’s press office later released a statement offering additional context for the claim:
