Scheffler has described the incident as a “big misunderstanding.” A police report on the incident stated that a “Detective Gillis” was dragged to the ground and suffered subsequent pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee. It also stated that his uniform pants, “valued at approximately $80” were damaged beyond repair.
Scheffler was charged with assault of a police officer in the second degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.
