Karl Rove Calls Out Trump Admin’s Rosy Economic Messaging: ‘We Are Doing Right Now What Joe Biden Did

Republican strategist Karl Rove warned that the Trump administration isn’t communicating effectively with the American people, and that it could hurt Republicans in the midterm elections.

On Monday’s edition of Kudlow on Fox Business Network, the host said, “The numbers are looking pretty good, Karl. We were talking about it at the top of the show. We’ve got very good manufacturing numbers. And the basic core GDP and so forth, and jobs.”

Kudlow then asked, “These messages on affordability and growth, as you put it — which I totally agree — are they, you know, are they being — is the messaging being messaged properly?”

“I think more could be done,” Rove answered. “Look, you cannot do — and we are doing right now what Joe Biden did. ‘Everything’s great.’ You know, we can’t go out and say, ‘It’s the best economy the world’s ever seen.’ That’s not what people are feeling. What we’ve got to remind them is that we’ve taken steps to make it better, and those steps resonate with ordinary people.”

Rove continued, “But we don’t have a good messaging right now. We’re distracted because of the war and even then, we’re just not getting the message across, in my opinion.”

“Your last line there is very important to me,” Kudlow said. “First of all, on the messaging, Karl, you’ve got this midterm convention in September. How important is that going to be? Is that an opportunity? You know, you get Mr. Trump, you’ll get the party leaders. Is that going to be the ultimate quintessential messaging moment pre-election?”

“Well, it could certainly get people in the right place for the final 60-some-odd days of the campaign. But, A, it’s got to be done today rather than waiting five more weeks until September, and, B, it needs to be to done by our candidates in their own individual states and districts,” Rove answered.

Kudlow asked how much of a factor the Iran war is expected to be in the upcoming elections.

“I do think the Americans like to go for a winner, and we particularly going to go for the winner when it’s such a virulent enemy of the United States,” Rove said. “But we have got to have a president out there explaining it, making it clear, being reasonable, straight forward, and recognize that this is not going to be solved by the time of the election in all likelihood.”
