‘Stop Being So Extreme!’ Charlamagne Calls Out Hakeem Jeffries for Meeting With Jared Kushner Despite Heated Rhetoric

Charlamagne Tha God called out House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for pledging to go after the “Trump Cartel” after the Dem leader got backlash for privately meeting with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

“Yo Hakeem, We don’t believe you,” Charlamagne said on the Tuesday episode of The Breakfast Club.

“Jared Kushner’s not even a government official right? He’s just one of Trump’s top advisors, right,” the podcaster said on The Breakfast Club.

“I mean to me this is yet another example of why Democrats and Republicans need to stop being so extreme with their rhetoric,” he said. “Like you know, saying people are threats to democracy and fascists and crooks — when you say that, and then have private meetings with them working with them, it undermines all of that.

“And that’s why Hakeem is getting this smoke, that’s why he’s getting this backlash from people,” the podcaster continued. “I also don’t understand why Democrats have more smoke with people in their own party, like you know the DSA or anyone labeled a socialist, than they do with MAGA. So you’re telling me you can find common ground with the so-called fascists but not with people in your own party?”

Jeffries met privately with Kushner in New York, according to The New York Times, in a meeting arranged by a “mutual friend” during which they discussed “housing, immigration and the high cost of living as potential areas of common ground.”

The Dem leader got fierce backlash when word of the meeting broke and responded with a social media video insisting the purpose was to discuss the “affordability crisis” because Americans were “stressed the ‘F’ out” and Democrats had a “responsibility to address it” — before promising in a caption alongside the post that, “No one from the Trump Cartel is getting a pass.”

Jeffries is poised to become Speaker if his party wins back the majority in November.

Under pressure from CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Tuesday, Jeffries conceded the meeting was not productive.

“No,” Jeffries said. “It was just a high-level, topical conversation — particularly focused on affordability as well as the housing bill that was recently passed and enacted into law as a foundation for the type of thing that perhaps can be built upon moving forward.”
