Trump Shreds ‘Radical Left Group of Lunatics’ Over Kirk Killing — Urges Non-Violent Response from His Supporters
President Donald Trump entertained a few questions from the press while on his way to Marine One on Thursday afternoon — during which he again slammed “radical left group of lunatics” over the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
One reporter asked, “Are you concerned for your own safety?” in the wake of the ongoing manhunt for Kirk’s killer.
“Not really,” Trump answered. “I’m really concerned for our country. We have a great country. We have a radical left group of lunatics out there, just absolute lunatics. And we’re going to get that problem solved. I’m only concerned for the country.”
Another reporter asked how Trump wanted to see his supporters respond to the assassination.
“Charlie Kirk was a big advocate of nonviolence and free speech on campus. How do you want your supporters to respond, sir?”
“I think that way he was he was an advocate of nonviolence. That’s the way I’d like to see people respond.”
Trump was then asked if he had spoken to Kirk’s family.
“I did,” the president answered. “I spoke to Erika, his wife, and we had a long talk, and she’s devastated. She is absolutely devastated, as you can imagine.”
Trump put out a video message to the nation from the Oval Office Wednesday night several hours after he announced Kirk’s death via Truth Social.
“For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals,” Trump said. “This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.”
Trump called on”all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree.”
He called out “radical left political violence” for having “hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives.”
