President Donald Trump erupted at Republican holdouts early Thursday as his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” stalled in the House just days before his self-imposed July 4 deadline.

The bill extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, boosts border funding, and delivers sweeping spending reductions, including deeper cuts to Medicaid and nutrition assistance. Critics call it an austerity wish list; Trump allies say it’s essential to restoring “economic greatness.”

The package, already altered by the Senate, where Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote, includes a $5 trillion debt ceiling increase, surpassing the House’s initial $4 trillion cap. That revision spooked some House Republicans, but leadership refused to allow further changes.

Speaker Mike Johnson, grappling with razor-thin margins and a restless hard-right flank, spent the day brokering last-minute deals and corralling just enough support to avoid a full-blown mutiny.

Pushing for a breakthrough in the wee hours, Trump unleashed on Truth Social, fuming at members of his own party:

Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!

In a second post dripping with frustration, he vented in all caps:

FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!

The pressure campaign appeared to work. Hours later, House Republicans voted 219-213 to narrowly advance the sprawling legislation and clear the path for final debate.

Though Thursday’s vote merely begins the final debate, it marks a symbolic win for Trump and his allies in the House, who have hoped to deliver a legislative victory before Friday.
