‘Trump Trolling or Trump Truthing?’ Karoline Leavitt Asked By New Media Influencer If President Actually Wants Canada as a State
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took part in a game of “Trump trolling or Trump truthing” on Tuesday at a press briefing for “new media” members.
Leavitt has begun holding separate press briefings for members of what the White House identifies as the “new media” — which also gets a rotating seat during regular press briefings. “New media” includes a number of podcasters, independent journalists, and pro-MAGA influencers.
At Tuesday’s briefing, Brenden Dilley, host of The Dilley Show, asked Leavitt to take part in a round of “Trump trolling or Trump truthing,” in which he asked about everything from Trump’s repeated wish that Canada become the 51st state to his teasing a 2028 run despite the Constitution barring a third term.
Trump’s repeated talk about Canada has led to backlash in the country. Freshly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Monday after his victory that Trump is “trying to break” Canada in response to 51st state talk, tariffs, and more.
“Trump truthing all the way,” Leavitt said about Trump wanting the United States to absorb Canada. “And the Canadians would benefit greatly, let me tell you that.”
Check out the exchange below:
BRENDEN DILLEY: I was wondering if you’d indulge me in a quick round of Trump trolling or Trump truthing?
KAROLINE LEAVITT: Sure, let’s do it. I love it.
DILLEY: Greenland joining America?
LEAVITT: Definitely Trump truthing.
DILLEY: Canada becoming the 51st state?
LEAVITT: Trump truthing all the way. And the Canadians would benefit greatly, let me tell you that.
DILLEY: Eliminating the IRS?
LEAVITT: I think that is an optimistic goal and the president — so I would say we’re on the side of truthing there for sure and the president again wants to see tax cuts and he wants to see this massive revenue that we can gain from tariffs as well, which will create and external revenue service. So that’s a definitive goal for sure.
DILLEY: Most importantly, Trump 2028?
LEAVITT: Trump trolling although the hats are flying off the shelves.
