Wild Body Cam Video Shows The Destruction Caused When a Distracted Driver Plowed Into a Traffic Stop

Wild police body cam video showed the destruction caused by a distracted driver plowing into a car that was pulled over on a Texas highway.

It happened in El Paso, Texas, where a motorcycle officer’s body cam showed him standing alongside a teal blue car he had pulled over during a traffic stop. The officer appeared to type the driver’s license information into his device.

“Well, here’s your card,” the officer said, right before a dark blue vehicle smashed into the back of the stopped car and pushing it about 500 feet down the shoulder of the road.

“Oh!” the officer exclaimed as he spun back toward his motorcycle before heading toward the crash.

“The driver narrowly misses the officer, but barrels into the stopped vehicle,” CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said. “The officer was injured and the driver of the stopped car was taken to the hospital. No one was seriously injured.”

“The other driver was cited for failure to control speed, causing a collision,” Blitzer said, as co-anchor Pamela Brown exclaimed, “Wow.”

The El Paso Police Department posted the video to its Instagram, saying the crash happened July 25 on a stretch of I-10.

“This started like any other traffic stop,” the video heading read. “Every traffic stop creates a shared danger. For the officer, for the driver, for everyone nearby. Slow down, stay alert, move over. It’s the law.”

On the post, EPPD wrote, “This incident is a stark reminder that traffic stops are among the most dangerous parts of an officer’s job. In a matter of seconds, a routine stop nearly turned tragic.”

“When you see emergency lights on the roadside, Move Over or Slow Down. Texas law requires drivers to move over when it is safe to do so or slow significantly if they cannot. Most importantly, stay alert and eliminate distractions behind the wheel. One moment of distraction can change lives,” the post said.
