Liberal podcaster Krystal Ball doesn’t believe alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson will gain a cult following like Luigi Mangione because the accused killer is “not as good-looking.”

On the Breaking Points podcast, Ball and guest Emily Jashinsky were discussing the cult-like followings some killers can get, even after they are locked up.

Jashinsky pointed to Mangione as an example of this trend while expressing concern that the same could happen for Robinson.

Mangione is currently facing murder charges over the December killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Robinson is also in police custody after turning himself in after Kirk’s death.

“You end up with a Charles Manson cult around someone, a cult following where people are obsessed and get fixated on someone in prison,” Jashinsky said, adding, “Even Mangione, you see some of this after he said he was innocent, which means you could really be misdirecting people in different ways. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen here.”

“Well, he’s not as good-looking as Mangione, so he’ll be less inspirational to people,” Ball joked.

Jashinsky buried her face in her hands as the host pressed on.

“Tell me I’m wrong!” she said.

The moment led to backlash on social media, but even Jashinsky has stepped in to defend the joke from Ball.

“What the clip leaves out is that I was arguing it’s GOOD the FBI, as of Friday, was getting us quick answers so that a Luigi-style cult of personality doesn’t develop around this freak, who [Krystal Ball] was rightfully calling ugly because he is. Joke was on him, 100%,” she wrote in response to one user on X.

Another critic of the moment was former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who jumped into the debate to call Ball’s comment “callous” and “cruel.” He asked where Ball’s “humanity” was.

“My team respects you, but why did you laugh at her callous, cruel statement? Krystal’s facial expression as she said it is what is particularly concerning to us. It’s disgusting and vile. Where is her humanity?” he wrote.

“Because it was a joke about a monster being hideous, which he is — inside and out,” she responded.
