The Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday waived winger Corey Perry for some unknown reason, leading some to speculate he may have had an affair with the mother of rookie Connor Bedard.
On Tuesday afternoon, the team announced it placed the 38-year-old on unconditional waivers. If Perry clears waivers, the team continued, it intends to “terminate his contract effective immediately.”
“After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable,” the statement said, “and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”
Somehow, the internet has begun running with the theory that Perry was waived after an affair with Bedard’s mother. According to Jack Parodi of The Game Day NFL, the alleged affair started during a family event organized by the team.
“So on Nov. 8 of this year, the Chicago Blackhawks players were having a ‘mom’s weekend,’ where every player’s mother would come travel with them for a two-game road trip,” Parodi said in a TikTok video summarizing the timeline of events. “Apparently, on that weekend, when Mama Bedard was in town, they ended up… you know.

A little over two weeks later, the team said Perry would be stepping away from the team for the “foreseeable future.” General manager Kyle Davidson did not elaborate on the absence but did confirm it was the team’s decision to hold him out. Perry’s agent, on the other hand, said the decision was Perry’s as he deals as he attends to a “personal matter.”
Parodi argued that the wording of the team’s statement gives away the true nature of the roster move, but neither the players nor the organization have commented on it any further.
