Australian Host’s Scathing Trump Hot Mic Jab Goes Viral After Prez Photobombs World Cup Trophy Lift Moment

An Australian TV commentator was caught on a hot mic commenting that producers “can edit him out of that” as President Donald Trump lingered onstage during Spain’s World Cup trophy celebration on Sunday.

Trump attended Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey before joining FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the pitch for the post-match medal ceremony.

After presenting medals to both teams, Trump remained on the podium as Spain’s players gathered to celebrate with the World Cup trophy, standing between the squad and a bank of photographers during the moment typically reserved for the winning team.

Infantino appeared to encourage the president to step aside before the trophy presentation, but Trump stayed close to the Spain squad as confetti fell and the team celebrated its victory.

During the live broadcast, SBS host Claudio Fabiano was heard quipping: “They can edit him out of that.”

Earlier in the ceremony, Argentina defender Cristian Romero refused to shake hands with Trump while collecting his runner-up medal.

The appearance came against the backdrop of strained political relations between the White House and Spain’s government. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, has been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics in Europe.

At a NATO summit in Turkey earlier this month, Trump dismissed the country in blunt terms, saying: “I don’t want anything to do with Spain.”

“They’re hopeless. Bad people,” he added.

Spain’s victory capped its tournament campaign after the team clinched a win against Argentina in the final when Ferran Torres scored the only goal in extra time to finish 1-0.

The champions dominated the final from start to finish, taking all 20 shots, completing roughly 400 more passes and pinning the opposition deep inside their own half for most of the game, before Argentine Enzo Fernandez’s red card reduced the defending champions to 10 men.
