Bill O’Reilly Fumes at Newsmax’s Eric Bolling: ‘I’ll Slow It Down So You Understand It’

Bill O’Reilly clashed with Newsmax host Eric Bolling over Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) recent actions in the House, which prompted three weeks of Republican infighting over the speakership.

Gaetz triggered a vote of the House earlier this month on whether to oust then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from his post. The gambit succeeded when eight Republicans joined 208 Democrats in voting for removal. The Republican conference subsequently nominated four candidates, only the last of whom – Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) notched enough votes to become speaker.

O’Reilly and other conservatives have criticized Gaetz for what they say was a needless and potentially damaging sideshow.

“I thought McCarthy ran the show pretty well,” O’Reilly told Bolling on Thursday’s episode of The Balance.

“Do you, Bill?” the host interrupted before saying O’Reilly could be perceived as a RINO (Republican in name only).

“No,” O’Reilly protested. “It that means by that logic, alright, 213 members of the Republican House are RINOs because they voted to keep McCarthy So are they all insane? I mean, is that what you’re telling me? Look, you govern by working with the opposition. That’s the way the Constitution was set up by the Founding Fathers. You don’t walk in there and say, ‘I want this, I want that’ when you don’t have the votes to get it.”

“But Bill, the process worked,” Bolling replied. “Granted, the timing was awful–”

“You don’t know if the process worked or not!” exclaimed O’Reilly, who said the parties are supposed to be “problem-solving, not being ideological.”

After some more crosstalk, O’Reilly grew impatient.

“Look, I’ll make this point again and I’ll slow it down so you understand it, Bolling,” he told the host. “Matt Gaetz would get nothing done if he were speaker of the House. Nothing.”

He added, “Now, I don’t know about Johnson. I’ll give Johnson a try, but based upon what I know of the dynamics in the Senate and the House, McCarthy did the best job he could do.”
