CNN Reports Taliban Vowing to Take ‘Every Measure to Catch the Culprits’ in Kabul Airport Attacks
CNN reported on Thursday that the Taliban has been vowing to take “every measure to catch the culprits” in the attack that day outside the airport in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
CNN international diplomatic editor Nic Robertson noted that the Taliban released a statement that said that 13 people have been killed and 52 others have been wounded in the explosion.
“The Taliban do say that this happened in a civilian area. They use that language. It happened in a civilian area. But they also say that this was an area where U.S. Forces operated as well,” said Robertson. “And their statement goes onto say, and this is a bit where I think we need to really take note about how things proceed forward from here, they say that they will take attack every measure to catch the culprits.”
The Taliban’s official statement, according to a Google translation of the Arabic, was that “The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns the bombing of civilians at Kabul airport, which took place in an area where US forces are responsible for security. The Islamic Emirate is paying close attention to the security and protection of its people, and evil circles will be strictly stopped.”

Robertson went on to point out that Taliban assurances like these “ring hollow” given their inability to control events on the ground.
