CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Corners Scott Jennings on Press Secretary Rumors: ‘That’s Not a No’

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins pressed the network’s own conservative commentator Scott Jennings over speculation that he may be tapped as President Donald Trump’s next White House press secretary, and pointedly noted that his answer was “not a no.”

The exchange marked the second consecutive night Jennings had faced questions on CNN about potentially succeeding Karoline Leavitt.

Asked Wednesday on CNN NewsNight whether he planned to take the job, Jennings gave guest host Lulu Garcia-Navarro a straightforward answer: “No.”

Speculation has nevertheless intensified, with prediction market Kalshi listing Jennings among the leading prospects for the position.

Jennings was put on the spot again on Thursday after Collins raised reports linking him to the vacancy left by Leavitt, who announced Wednesday that she was stepping down as White House press secretary.

“You know, Scott, I have to ask you because the White House announced yesterday Karoline Leavitt is leaving as press secretary. Your name keeps getting floated, which I’m sure you’ve seen. Have you heard anything from the White House on that job opening?” Collins asked.

“I don’t really have anything to say about it other than, I mean, I would get to see you every day,” Jennings replied. “And I would think you’d be happy about this.”

“I already see you every day,” Collins shot back.

“Not really,” Jennings said with a laugh. “We see each other one or two days a week, but can you imagine every single day getting to go to work where I am?”

“We already work together Scott! OK, but that’s not a no,” Collins responded.

Democratic commentator Paul Begala, who appeared alongside Jennings on Thursday, also weighed in after Collins joked that she already knew his answer about taking the job.

Begala called Jennings a “great guy” but warned that serving as White House press secretary is “a thankless job, and I don’t wish that on anybody. I especially don’t wish it on Scott because he’s my friend.”
