Jimmy Fallon Mocks ’80-Year-Old’ Trump’s ‘Very Normal’ Problems With ‘Leaks and Shortages’ After Missile Report
Jimmy Fallon assured President Donald Trump that at “80 years old,” problems with “leaks and shortages” were “very normal” as he mocked the administration’s denials and the reported shortages in the missile stockpile.
The monologue came Thursday after an anonymously sourced article in The Washington Post reported the president confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over concerns that missile stockpiles were low as a result of the Iran conflict.
The Tonight Show host first referenced signs of progress in negotiations between Washington and Tehran, after both countries confirmed they were nearing an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“That’s the good news. The bad news is it’s been closed for so long, it’s now called the Spirit Halloween of Hormuz,” he quipped, adding: “Trump’s excited about the deal. He’s about to hang a huge victory banner reading ‘Everything is back to how it was before I got involved.'”
Fallon quickly turned to reporting that Trump had unloaded on Hegseth during a recent Cabinet meeting after learning about reported shortages of key U.S. munitions.
“Speaking of the Iran war, it just came out that during a recent Cabinet meeting, President Trump lashed out at Pete Hegseth over the military’s missile shortage,” he said. “And I guess Hegseth thought we had more missiles than we actually did.”
The comedian followed with a swipe at past scrutiny of the defense secretary’s drinking habits, adding: “In Hegseth’s defense, when he looks at anything, he sees double, so, you know…”
As the audience laughed, Fallon then rounded on Trump’s seemingly contradictory public rejection of the reports and the president’s warning that those responsible for leaking such information were “being hunted down.”
“Well, we know one thing. They’re not being hunted by missiles. We don’t have ’em,” Fallon said.
“Right now Trump is dealing with leaks and shortages, which is actually pretty normal for an 80-year-old man,” he concluded.
