Outnumbered Heats Up Over Trump’s Saudi Statement: Crown Prince ‘Needs to be Punished’

Fox News’ Outnumbered panel had a very animated discussion on Wednesday in response to Donald Trump‘s decision to back Saudi Arabia over the controversy of whether the royal family directly ordered the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.

The president’s decision has drawn significant backlash across the political spectrum, especially since Trump seems to be ignoring evidence collected by the CIA which reportedly confirms Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the murder.

Lisa Boothe started off the chat by laying out her mixed feelings on the issue, saying “it’s important to send a message” to Saudi Arabia about human rights — even though America needs its alliance with the Saudis to counter Iran.

Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI), today’s #OneLuckyGuy, trashed “the left’s hypocrisy” on this issue after former president Barack Obama supposedly gave Iran billions of dollars. His wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy expressed “disgust” with the Saudis while remarking that America has relationships with other countries with bad human rights records.

Julie Banderas, however, said doing nothing over the evidence against Salman is out of the question. She also seemed to take issue with Trump’s wishy-washy statement that “maybe [Salman] did and maybe he didn’t” know about this Khashoggi hit.

“I think we shouldn’t be turning a blind eye to any human rights violations and I think quite frankly there is plenty of evidence out there not only points the crown prince and his people and those who work under him in his security team to be responsible for this heinous murder, but I also believe that there needs on accountability…We can’t let him off the hook. Don’t tell me there is a chance that perhaps he had something to do with it or not. The investigation and all of the evidence that the Turkish officials have come forward with are very clear. Sanctions or something needs to happen…If he’s tied to this, he needs to be punished.”

This spiraled into a debate about how leaders need to be held accountable, even in regions like the Middle East where human rights are often violated.
