Republican Strategist Blasts GOP For Promoting ‘Cartoon Candidates’ After NC Candidate Porn Site Report

Republican strategist Doug Heye blasted the GOP for promoting “cartoon candidates” after a bombshell CNN report revealed controversial comments by North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.

Heye, who hails from North Carolina, did not hold back during a recent appearance on CNN speaking to host Anderson Cooper, where he warned of potential damage not just to Robinson’s gubernatorial bid but to Republicans across the state.

Heye’s remarks followed a CNN exposé, which surfaced old comments Robinson reportedly made on a pornographic website, including bizarre claims like “I’m a Black Nazi” and an remark about spying on a women’s locker room. Robinson has since denied making the remarks, suggesting that they could have been fabricated using artificial intelligence. But for Heye, the damage is already done.

“[Robinson] was probably toast before today. Now he’s just a bigger piece of toast,” Heye quipped, comparing the fallout to former President Donald Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood scandal.

Heye also stressed that the implications could extend beyond the governor’s race, which he believes is now firmly in the hands of Democratic contender Josh Stein: “This isn’t about the governor’s race. That race is over… The question is, does this affect up-ballot? And I think potentially it does.”

Speaking of the Trump campaign he continued: “This campaign has no money. It has no ground game. It can’t drive out their own voters,” he said, revealing that Republicans have been anxious about the potential fallout from Robinson’s comments for months.

Heye placed blame on Trump for endorsing Robinson: “This is another example of Republicans taking their own fists and saying: ‘Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself.’ We saw this in the Pennsylvania governor’s race. We saw it in the Maryland governor’s race. This cycle, last cycle, the cycle before these kinds of candidates sink Republicans.”

He concluded: “The outrage in the state predated this. This just brings it all further to bubble, and this is why it’s toxic. And Republicans need to learn, stop nominating, and stop voting for these cartoon candidates. These Addams Family candidates, who sink your chances in November. This is just the latest, most outrageous example.”
