‘Sickening!’ Geraldo Rivera Loses It Over ICE’s Electric Gloves Plan, Says He Wants to Attack Inventor

Geraldo Rivera wants to slap around the inventor behind electric shock gloves that ICE is dropping as much as $20 million on.

Rivera shared his blunt views of ICE’s use of the technology while speaking with NewsNation’s Connell McShane on Wednesday evening. It was revealed in an ICE notice that $10-20 million is being spent on a device known as CTG 5 G.L.O.V.E. (standing for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), gloves that can be turned on and off to give an electric shock.

Rivera called the acquisition of the gloves “sickening” and asked why ICE doesn’t just get “cattle prods.”

He said:

They are sickening, disgusting. How low can you get? I mean, I’d love to put those gloves on and slap around the inventor a little bit and see how he likes it. Really, it’s a…why not get cattle prods? You’re sending these kids to immigration court, their parents get taken, they got 7-year-olds standing alone in the courtroom with no lawyer, they’re doing away with legal services, the federal government wants to. I was a legal services attorney, these are desperate people, but I mean children, and this thing with the…how is the audience with this? You’re looking at this. How is this? How far do you want to go to round up law-abiding migrants? Do you want to torture them? Do you really want to do that? Is this where America is at now?

McShane noted that the company behind the gloves claims they don’t inflict any actual injuries and were designed more for de-escalation.

Such technology has mostly been used in prisons thus far. Users are not supposed to deploy the voltage for more than 15 seconds, and defenders have described the feeling as close to a bee sting.

Rivera dismissed these de-escalation arguments, noting there are already major concerns with ICE’s tactics.

“Picture this, you got an ICE agent, 6-foot-2-inch ICE agent with a full military garb. He’s got a face mask on and now he’s got gloves from outer space,” Rivera said. “Now he’s gonna be able to grab you in, and every time you resist, he’s going to put his hand on you and, you know, go [imitates being shocked]. I mean, come on, Connell, this is not, this is not us.”
