Trump Has Spent More Time Talking About His Construction Projects in 2026 Than Any Topic Except the Iran War, Study Finds

President Donald Trump devoted more of his public remarks this year to his construction projects than virtually any other major issue facing his administration — except the Iran war, according to a new analysis.

PolitiFact examined Trump’s recorded public remarks from January through July after its reporters noticed the president repeatedly returning to projects, including the White House ballroom and Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The analysis found that Trump devoted nearly 45,000 words to construction and beautification projects over the seven-month period, mentioning them during 84 public events across 66 separate days. Those appearances accounted for more than a quarter of all his public events during that time.

Among events where construction came up, Trump spent more time discussing the projects than subjects that included immigration and the economy, according to the report.

Only Iran and the Iran war surpassed construction, generating nearly 56,000 words and appearing in 73 of those 84 events.

PolitiFact reporters Caleb McCullough and Loreben Tuquero compiled the figures by analyzing Trump’s recorded spoken words at official events, signing ceremonies, press conferences, and prerecorded messages. The analysis did not include print interviews or posts on Truth Social, where Trump has also regularly discussed the projects.

The study found a notable divide between what Trump chose to discuss and what reporters asked him about. Construction ranked as his top subject during unprompted remarks at events where the projects were mentioned. When Trump was answering reporters’ questions, however, the Iran war took the top spot.

Trump’s construction talk accelerated dramatically as the months progressed. After receiving relatively few mentions in January and February, Politifact reports the projects appeared in nearly half of his public events in May. The Reflecting Pool alone was mentioned at 10 of Trump’s 37 events that month, generating nearly 6,600 words. In appearances where he raised the project, it consumed an average of roughly 10% of his speaking time.

The ballroom and Reflecting Pool together accounted for approximately 65% of Trump’s construction-related remarks. He has also discussed renovations to the Kennedy Center and White House, as well as plans for a 250-foot Triumphal Arch and National Garden of American Heroes.

“I love doing it,” Trump told reporters in January of his White House renovations. “I do it second nature. That’s why I was good at real estate.”

The White House defended the president’s focus when presented with the findings, tying the projects to the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

“No other president has done more to beautify our Nation’s interior than President Trump,” spokesperson Davis Ingle said. “From restoring our treasured landmarks, which had suffered years of abuse and vandalism, to cleaning our parks and the Reflecting Pool, President Trump’s bold vision ensured that America rang in its 250th birthday celebration with glory and pride.”
